June 19th, 2016 – While waiting for a table for a Father’s Day dinner.

Bern1960:  So Cogerson what did you get for Father’s Day?

Cogerson: Let’s see….Wife of Cogerson got me From Russia With Love and Northwest Passage…which means I now own all of dad’s Top 5 movies of all-time…..and the kids got me a Odd Thomas Blu-ray and a Odd Thomas book…..because that has become one of my favorite movies and I want to read the book that the movie is based on.

Scotty Son #2:  It is a shame about him dying.

Cogerson: Who died?

Scotty Son #2: Anton Yelchin…the guy that played Odd Thomas….and Chekov on Star Trek.

Cogerson:  Get the hell out of here….what are you talking about?

Bern1960:  Chekov died?

Scotty Son #2:  Not the old guy that played Chekov but the young guy who played him in the movies. He died in some crazy car accident today.

Cogerson:  Hey Wife of Cogerson….can I see your iPhone?

And that is how I found out that Anton Yelchin had passed away.   I have been following his career ever since I enjoyed his performance opposite Anthony Hopkins in 2001’s Hearts in Atlantis.  Even though he was only 27 years old his movie career was already closing in on 20 years.  As he got older he was doing a nice balance of appearing in blockbuster movies (Star Trek, Terminator: Salvation) and quirky interesting movies (Odd Thomas, Green Room, Alpha Dog).   When a movie star’s death bothers me…I tend to do a UMR page on their career….as it tends to make me feel better.  Well gotta say the death of this young man is bothering me.

Odd Thomas which is a mix of Men In Black, The Sixth Sense and The Frighteners ...has become one of my favorite movies.

  1. I am surprised and regret that I never commented on this page when it was first released because such a tragic death of so young and promising a star would have touched me; and anyway even when I have nothing to say about a performer I usually like to say it anyway!

So I tip my hat to those who paid timely respects and on belatedly further researching Anton’s career I find that-

1/I have seen two of his films – Along Came a Spider and 15 minutes.

2/He was in 15 television productions between 2000 and his death. That total includes a voice role in 39 out of 52 episodes of the series Trollhunters an animated fantasy presentation released after his death and which ran from Dec 2016 – May 2018. Anton gets star billing along with Kelsey Grammer who also participated.

3/Anton made two video games in 2013 – one based on Star Trek and the other on The Smurfs.

4/IMDB credits him with 9 acting awards and 18 noms; and his net worth at the time of his death was $10 million [$10.4 million today].

As I have said before another welcome facility that this site provides is a forum for viewers to pay their respects to thespians who have passed on
