  1. STEVE Flora commendably gets annoyed if she thinks any of us other viewers are being unfair to The Work Horse in our comments, and following my recent exchange with her on the Bruce Willis page she will probably be glad to see that I was not taking the Work Horse’s name in vain when I indicated that [apart from an admittedly fine Cogerson page on Clooney] WH never gave the nephew or Rosemary and Jose much “love” on this site. As you’ve already noticed yourself, here in fact is what WH says about George in a post at 3.57 am yesterday: “Not a huge fan of his at all.”

In a way that has always surprised me. I concede that Gorgeous George may not be a match for the trio of Al Leach, Mr Gimme More and Sir Maurice -could ANYBODY? However as I mention often, George once said that he wanted to be remembered for more that the summer commercial blockbuster and, in some respects, he has achieved that goal as his more thoughtful movies like Good Night and Good Luck [one of my own all-time fave flicks] and Ides of March have drawn excellent critical praise. WH himself gives them respectively fine 87 and 77% ratings for Review and you are not too far behind with 81.7 and 72%. Accordingly I would have thought that Bruce would have been more of a fan, particularly as Good Night and Good Luck deals with a subject that I understood to have an appeal for him: the McCarthy witch hunts.

George has had a sprinkling of box office successes but although I personally like him a lot I would not put him among the stars who can consistently open a film. However George is not just one of the richest, but the MEGA richest, movie stars to have ever lived with a reported net worth of $500 million – wow! IMDB credits him with 99 acting awards and 200 nominations – wow again! Female audiences apparently love “Gorgeous George” and indeed he could be said to have “something for everybody” because not only does he please me, women and the critics but he even played one of your own great Superheroes, Batman!

Best POSTERS Clooney video 1/Killer Tomatoes 2/1st one for Batman & Robin [those two movie must be right out of your own ‘comfort zone’!] 3/Suburbicon 4/ 1st one for Leatherheads 5/The Men who Stare at Joels 6/2nd one for Solaris 7/Perfect Storm 8/foreign language one for Tomorrowland 9/two for Dusk till Dawn 10/1st one for Burn After Reading 11/The Fantastic Mr Fox 12/a stunning first one for Out of Sight 13/two for Michael Clayton 14/2nd one for 3 Kings 15/Good Night and Good Luck -hurray! 16/Gravity.

Best STILLs from my perspective: 1/The Killer Tomatoes 2/two for Batman & Robin 3/Money Monster 4/The Peacemaker 5/Solaris 6/with my Julia 7/One Fine Day [wonderful “mush” straight out of MY comfort zone! 8/a stunner for Tomorrowland 9/The Ides of March -hurray again! 10/Syriana 11/Up in the Air 12/3 Kings 13/Gravity

As often you’re your bright and breezy presentations can bring me some cheer on an otherwise dull and overcast afternoon here. My scores reflect an overall 98%rating for this one. You and Bruce agree on 3 of the Top 6 best reviewed: Good Night and Good Luck [thank goodness – no pun intended!] Up in the Air and Gravity. My only comment on that is that I would have Michael Clayton [your No 6] in my own Top 6.

    1. Hi Bob, thanks for the review, generous rating, info, trivia and comparison, much appreciated.

Glad you liked the posters and stills.

Not sure why Bruce doesn’t much like Clooney, he does seem to like his films though. He’s seen all of them! I don’t think George himself has seen all of them! I’ve seen 24 which is not too bad.

I don’t think I’ve seen Good Night and Good Luck and was surprised it nearly ended up being Clooney’s greatest ever movie! [cue dramatic music chord] But I’m glad Gravity was no.1, as a fan of sci-fi and space exploration it was right up my alley.

I admit I did enjoy Michael Clayton, Syriana and Up in the Air, so Bob, I do venture out of my comfort zone on occasion. 😉

As I’ve mentioned before making these videos always gets me interested in seeing some of the films I’ve missed over the years. When they turn up on cable TV I add them to my tivo list.

Three Clooney films scored 10 out of 10 from my sources – The Descendants, The Thin Red Line and Gravity. Three more scored 9 – Syriana, Up in the Air and Good Night and Good Luck.

Gravity tops the charts at IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes and mine, but only came in 3rd on Bruce’s critics chart. He has The Descendants at no.1

“I love Spencer Tracy. Love him. He’s a hero of mine. I heard he never wore makeup, so I’ve never worn makeup, ever. I won’t put it on in any movie. I’m dark complexioned, so I can get away with it.”

Clooney on who will win the Best Actor Oscar in 2008 – “If you want my honest opinion, I think it’s going to be Daniel Day-Lewis (for There Will Be Blood). He sort of irritates all of us because he’s so good. I’ll tell you right now, I don’t like him!”

Clooney on Good Night, and Good Luck – “I’m not a snob, I like entertaining films as well. But when you do a film like this, or like Three Kings – films that get you in a bit of trouble – it’s fun to open up a debate.”

“I watch Batman & Robin from time to time. It’s the worst movie I ever made, so it’s a good lesson in humility.”

      1. HI STEVE

        Thanks for the thoughtful feedback.

I thought The Descendants was OK but I didn’t think it deserved the high placing and rating the WH has given it, and I’m always willing to give a Gorgeous George movie the benefit of any doubt.

I’m surprised you have been so kind to Rose’s nephew given what he has said about your comfort zone Batman & Robin movie!

  2. Added Steve’s George Clooney Video To This Page. Our thoughts found on his channel.

Not a huge fan of his at all….yet I watch everything he makes. I have seen every movie he has made except for Red Surf and Return To Horror High (both early George movies). Favorites…if I have them would be #7 Out Of Sight, #9 Ocean’s Eleven, #22 One Fine Day and parts of #2 The Thin Red Line. He is actually barely in the movie…only showing up at the end. I thought his number one movie…Gravity was only ok. Not sure what all the fuzz was about that one. Voted up and shared

    1. Hi Bruce, so, hang on, you’re not a fan but make sure you never miss a film of his, mmm nice. 🙂

Your tally – all of them, mine 24 and Flora 4. Well I figured if I keep avoiding The Thin Red Line because of all the cameos it would never get a look in one of my videos.

Sometimes I wonder if I’m the only person that genuinely liked Gravity, the 3D was pretty good too. Thanks for the comment, vote and share, much appreciated.
