Want to know the best George Lucas movies?  How about the worst George Lucas movies?  Curious about George Lucas’s box office grosses or which George Lucas movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which George Lucas movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.

George Lucas (1944-) is an Oscar®-nominated American film director, producer and writer. He is best known as the creator of the Star Wars and Indiana Jones movie franchises.  Lucas’ IMDb page shows over 250 credits from 1965 to 2017. This page will rank 22 George Lucas movies.  Movies will be ranked from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, video games and shorts were not included in the rankings.

Drivel part of the page:  With Rogue One set to break box office records in a few days (today is December 13th, 2016)….we figured we would send some love to the man that used to run all things in the Star Wars universe…Mr. George Lucas.   Granted it took 4 BILLION DOLLARS to get Mr. Lucas to relinquish the controls!  Still part of us feels a little sorry for him, as the Star Wars universe is about to add a new chapter and he is now only an observer like us.  So maybe this UMR page will give him a little joy this week.  Plus son #1, BryRog requested this page many moons ago.

Favorite Top 10: Indian Jones and The Last Crusade, lots of great options, but definitely enjoy this one the most.
Favorite Lowest Ranked (Secret Pleasure): Way too easy, Willow, I own three copies of this movie, 2 DVD and 1 blue ray. Mad Martigan is one of my favorite characters.

Awesome page. This man is responsible for quite a few of the largest grossing movies ever. But man does his dialogue suck. Looking forward for more.

    1. Hey Bryan….you have a very respectable tally….and you are right there with London Steve and me…… 21 for me, 19 for Steve and 18 for you…..so close….but still in last place….lol.

Wow…Indy 3 beats out all the Star Wars movies and the original Indiana Jones movies…..gotta say…I find that surprising for sure.

Willow is a great guilty pleasure movie for sure….I have been buying that movie for years now….I agree Mad Martigan is a great character…..too bad the movie did not concentrate on him more than some of the other poorly written characters.

I find the dialogue in Attack of the Clones to be on the same level as some of the Ed Wood movies that I have watched. As for his skills as a director….watch the pod racing scene in Phantom Menace and pay close attention to Liam Neeson and his group….as they watch the race…..it is just brutal to watch and listen to.

Thanks for the kind words about “our” website.

        1. Hey Bryan….mmmm…..well THX1138 pretty slowly paced..especially compared to the action packed Equilibrium and The Island…..but the tones of all three movies do indeed match…as well as the futuristic times they show….good point. 🙂

          1. I only asked as I was reading the plot for THX 1138 and it says the main characters stop taking the medicine that controls their emotion and then they fall in love.

          2. Good point Bryan….I had forgotten about that plot twist in THX 1138….which Equilibrium copied for sure….and the point goes to Bryan…..good job.

  2. If you take away Mr. Jones and Star Wars there is not much to his career. Then again most filmmakers would be very happy with one mega franchise much less two. I had forgotten we have Lucas to thank for Howard the Duck.

    1. Hey Stein….I agree but those two franchises are all-time great ones. Yes….he gave us Howard the Duck too…..when you swing for the fences sometimes you strike out. Thanks for the comment.

  3. You’ve beaten me Bruce, I’ve seen 19 of the 22 movies from Lucas on here. I haven’t seen Strange Magic, More American Graffiti or Radioland Murders.

But I do own 17 of those films on DVD and Blu-ray.. I’m a big Star Wars fan as you might suspect and the first three Indy films were super, not so much the 4th one ‘Crystal Skull’ which gave rise to the phrase ‘Nuke the Fridge’

How many of the 22 has George directed? I think just 6?

Empire Strikes Back tops the critics chart and I think it did on my Star Wars video too. The first and best Star Wars movie (1977) tops the UMR chart, so everyone’s happy. 😉

The worst rated of the 6 live action Star Wars movies listed here is.. [drum roll] The Phantom Menace, which is lower than Crystal Skull on the chart.

The latest Star Wars adventure Rogue One, has had some great reviews and I’m looking forward to seeing it some time next week.

Looking at the grosses, A New Hope is way ahead of the pack in adjusted grosses, a billion dollars more than the 2nd biggest, The Phantom Menace. I think that’s ahead of Avatar too.

Good work Bruce, the Force was definitely with you on this one. Vote Up!

    1. Hey Steve…..believe or not but Strange Magic is in heavy rotation at my house….my little ones love that movie. I thought it was ok…at best……but I own it. So I have the best in the tally count…..so let me count how many I own…..16…so you have me there.

You are correct he has directed 6 movies….I never understood how Crystal Skull got such good reviews….and even more confusing is the standing ovation it got on opening night after the movie ended….I thought I was in a Twilight Zone movie….as it made no sense to me.

I wonder what Lucas thinks about the latest Star Wars movies….publically supportive…privately rooting for less than great results…..glad you are happy with the top movies in different categories. Thanks for the visit and the comment.

  4. You feel sorry for him? I think he is fine especially with all that cash. I think new blood is what that franchise needed.

    1. Hey Nate…..true….but he had lots of cash before giving up the franchise….i just bet he has said a couple of times….I was I was still in control…maybe he would have kept Han alive.

  5. Hello Bruce,

I prefer George Lucas as writer than director, but… He created 2 of the best sagas of the cinema’s history !! I’m a big fan of Star Wars (and Indiana Jones), and I’ve seen all the movies at theatre between 1997. And I will see Rogue One of course. I’ve seen 15 movies of the list.

    1. Hey Laurent…..I am a fan of his early writing……some classic stuff. I will not mention his most recent work. I am still stunned about how bad Indy 4 turned out….and it has been years now…I guess…..I will never overcome that.

15 is pretty stout….I am at 21…I have only missed Radioland Murders….Strange Magic was his most recent movie….and it was a computer animated movie that my kids actually love….thanks for the visit, the comment and the tally.
