George Segal Movies

George Segal (1934-2021) was an American actor and musician. Segal became popular in the 1960s and 1970s for playing both dramatic and comedic roles. Some of his most acclaimed roles are in films such as Ship of Fools (1965), King Rat (1965), Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966), The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre (1967), Where’s Poppa? (1970), The Hot Rock (1972), Blume in Love (1973), A Touch of Class (1973), California Split (1974), For the Boys (1991), and Flirting with Disaster (1996). He was one of the first American film actors to rise to leading man status with an unchanged Jewish surname—thus paving the way for Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand. – From Wikipedia

  1. It’s darkly ironic. On Tuesday, I caught a glimpse of George Segal in The Goldbergs, a series I have never watched, and the next day I found out he passed away. A fine actor, able at playing dramatic, comedy and adventure roles. At his peak in the early/mid-70s, Segal was quite a popular leading man, though I’m more familiar with his work from the 60s: Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolf?, King Rat, The Quiller Memorandum, No Way to Treat a Lady, The Brigde at Remegan. I have not seen some of his biggest films from the 70s like The Owl and the Pussycat, California Split and A Touch of Class buy hope to eventually. RIP George Segal!

    1. Hey PhilHoF17…..good to hear from you. Sounds like some Cosmic forces were working the other day. I have always enjoyed his performances….I had no idea he was pushing 90. Of his 1960s movies, I enjoyed No Way To Treat A Lady the most. I like you have not seen his big hits of the 1970s…..though I have seen The Owl and the Pussycat….which was alright at best….I think the power of Babs is the main reason it was such a hit. Rest in Peace Mr. Segal.

  2. I have not seen a lot of George Segal movies. My favourites are Ship of Fools and The Longest Day. Rest in peace.

    1. Hey Flora. Thanks for the thoughts on the late George Segal. I liked him a lot during his peak of the 1970s. I saw at least 4 of his movies in theaters. The last being the blockbuster Look Who’s Talking. Rest In Peace Mr. Segal.

  3. I’m surprised I never did anything on George Segal. George is # 175 on the 2020 Oracle of Bacon list. These are the other actors on the 2020 list he appeared with.

    1. Hey Dan. Thanks for the information on George Segal. Sad sad news on his passing. Wow lists are massive. I would say the 45 Oscar winning co-stars is slightly more impressive than the Top 200 Oracle Ranking. Tons of people in two movies with him, but none reached three movies. Good stuff and great tribute to George Segal. RIP.

    1. Hey Steve…thanks for stopping by and commenting on our Segal tribute page. I might re-watch King Rat as a tribute to him…..either that or his Jane Fonda movie, Fun With Dick and Jane. Sad news. He was an underrated actor. RIP.
