    1. Hey Dan
      1. If you are going to continue to vacation in areas with poor internet availability….we here at UMR.com are going to stop giving you permission to go on these trips…..lol.
      2. Wow…she barely made the Top 1000 in 2000…..so it is not surprising that she is not on the list anymore.
      3. I see Howl’s Moving Castle did not make your lists….that movie would give her Christian Bale and Lauren Bacall on her Oscar winning co-stars.
      4. Seeing Hugh Grant sitting in 959th place makes me mention…..that I just saw Hugh in the Paddington 2 trailer….two thoughts….he is not aging well…and how low is his career going….playing a cartoon like bad guy in a kid’s movie….then again….he is pretty much replacing Nicole Kidman in the sequel.
      5. Good ole Bess Flowers showing up 4 times in the second list….the most…I think…lol.
      6. 28 Oscar winner co-stars is a little lower than average.
As always….fascinating lists to look at…enjoy the rest of your time at Martha’s Vineyard…been there once…and was awesome!

      1. Actually Lauren never won an Oscar but you are correct. My listings for Howl’s Moving Castle did not have either Jean or Lauren down but I did have Christian Bale so they both get him as a connection. Both also get connected to number 626 Emily Mortimer and both get connected to #957 Billy Crystal on the 2000 list.

  2. Thank you for doing an article on the beautiful and talented Jean Simmons. She was so underrated and gifted and could do any type of role: comedy with Cary Grant; Shakespeare with Sir Laurence Olivier; and drama with Spencer Tracy. She was the equal of any of her legendary male luminaries: Kirk Douglas, Marlon Brando (twice); Victor Mature (four times and most frequent co-star), Richard Burton; Robert Mitchum (twice); Frank Sinatra; Charlton Heston; Gregory Peck; and Stewart Granger (her great true love and co-star), among others.
    She is greatly missed.

    1. Hey Frank. Glad you liked our Jean Simmons page. I agree with you about her being underrated. Seems not too many people are aware of her awesome career these days. Her list of co-stars is filled with some of the greatest stars ever. I wish I had all of the Granger/Simmons movies listed here….though I am still digging trying to find out more information on their movies. Thanks for the visit, the comment and the nice words about this page.

  3. I always liked Jean Simmons, and her films ran frequently on german TV. Of your listed movies, I have seen 23, but add a handful of british ones that were not popular or distributed in the US, like Hungry Hill, So Long at the Fair, Adam and Evelyne or Uncle Silas. Of the films listed above, I really love Black Narcissus, Trio, Young Bess, Mr. Emmanuel, Footsteps in the Fog, The Actress, Home before Dark, Elmer Gantry and Mr. Buddwing. My first memory of her is in Angel Face, and she was a really good femme fatale. This one has remained a favorite ever since. As much as I love her, I think I will forever be grateful to Mr. Hughes for NOT letting her play the Princess in Roman Holiday- one of Audrey Hepburns iconic roles and her only Oscar winning one. Thanks to Syndi for the suggestion and Cogey for the impeccable execution 🙂

    1. Hey Lupino.
      1. Thanks for the feedback on our Jean Simmons movie page.
      2. Well your tally of 23 Simmons movies breaks out three tie at the top with 13 movies….with me having only seen 11 of her movies.
      3. I reallly really wanted to include So Long At The Fair….but I can not find anything on it’s North American box office run.
      4. I have only seen a couple of your favorite Simmons’ movies….Black Narcissus and Elmer Gantry….I liked Elmer…not a huge fan of Narcissus….though with so many people mentioning how much they like this movie…maybe I need to re-watch it.
      5. Footsteps in the Fog and Mr. Buddwing are two of her movies that I want to watch in the near future.
      6. I imagine Simmons not getting the Roman Holiday role….really changed the life path of Audrey Hepburn….it makes you wonder what would have happened to Hepburn if Simmons got that role.
      7. Good stuff.

  4. I have seen 13 of Jean Simmons movies. Were you unable to find box office information for some films between 1944 and 1954?

My favourite movies of Jean’s career are:

    Guys and Dolls
    Hamlet
    The Actress
    Spartacus
    Elmer Gantry

    1. Hey Flora….between 1944 and 1950 Jean Simmons made 17 movies…most made in England and either did not get released in North America or they had limited screens. Of those 17…..6 made the page….meaning 11 did not. From 1951 to the end of her career….I have all of her movies with the exception of An Affair With a Stranger.

Tally count….3 way tied with you, Steve and John being at 13 movies watched….with me bringing up the rear with 11. I have seen 4 of your favorites…with the Actress being the only one I have not seen. I like Spartacus and Guys and Dolls the best of those 5. Thanks for the comment, visit and tally count. It is always appreciated.

  5. Cogerson

I have seem 13 of the movies listed. My favorites would be the 1940’s English films-Great Expectations, Black Narcissus, and Hamlet, and of course The Big Country and Spartacus. I want to give a nod to Footsteps in the Fog, a color “crime” (it is not really a mystery) film based on a clever W. W. Jacobs short story.

    1. Hey John.
      1. Thanks for the tally count, visit and comment.
      2. So you and Steve are tied at 13…with me already in 3rd place with 11.
      3. Glad we were able to find box office grosses on your favorite movies….our success percentage on researching her 1940s movies was not too impressive. I have seen and enjoyed 4 of your Top 5 favorites.
      4. I was really really bored with Black Narcissus……it looked awesome…but the pace was brutally slow….but the other 4 are highly rated in my book….it is no fun to agree on everything….lol.

      1. Hey John….Footsteps in the Fog….sounds like a movie I would like to see. I read the Wiki plot summary on that one while researching this page and it sounds like it has some nice twists and turns. Good feedback.
