  1. HI STEVE
Thanks for the feedback on my Turner posts and for the explanations that you gave to my questions. You will have observed I am sure how much I enjoyed your Kathleen video and having the opportunity to respond to it.

I loved Kathleen’s quote about Warren, Jack and Mike. She certainly WAS a bit naïve though in thinking that those guys’ priority was to look out for her.

It reminds me again of that scene in Sweet Bird of Youth where Paul Newman’s middle aged actress lover is on the phone to a Hollywood big shot trying to discuss her own career comeback and Newman, who wants to break into movies through her former contacts, becomes hysterical and yells at her “What about ME? Ask him about ME!

I wasn’t clear whether the trio were pursuing her as a leading lady or as a lover though In Beatty’s case especially it could well have been both. In her autobiography Shelley Winters claimed that in her heyday Lancaster and your favourite orator were both in hot competition for her romantic affections.

She told the story of how one evening Burt called at her apartment with a bunch of flowers and she had to send him away without admittance because already inside was He who Has Given the Most Definitive ever Shakespearean Screen Performance.

I have often confused Turner’s 1987 Joelia and Joelia with Streep’s 2009 Julie and Julia.

“Good timing….Send Your Roses a book written by Turner is on my desk right now. I used to have such a crush on her in my teenage years. Let’s see…seen #25 V.I. Horrible….terrible movie #23 The Perfect Family…seen it barely remember it #16 Switching Channels…she hated working with Reynolds….she wanted to work with Michael Caine #14 Jewel of the Nile…I actually like this sequel more than the original. #13 Crimes of Passion…mess of a movie #12 Serial Mom…great comic Turner performance #11 Peggy Sue Got Married…Cage’s voice destroyed the movie #10 Monster House…scared my kids #9 War of the Roses…the final Douglas/Turner/DeVito movie fun but mean movie #8 Marley and Me…I remember only realizing she was the dog trainer AFTER seeing her name on the cast role at the END of the movie. #7 Man With Two Brains…she is sexy in this one #6 The Virgin Suicides…supporting role…ok movie…very slowly paced #5 Accidental Tourist…a Body Heat reunion is ok….Geena Davis got Oscar #4 Prizzi’s Honor….love this one….love the ending #3 Romancing the Stone…never a fan of this one…maybe I need to re-watch. #2 Body Heat…one of the first R rated movies I saw in theaters…classic. #1 Who Framed Roger Rabbit….huge back then…does not seem to have much of a legacy…I did not see that coming. So that is 16 of her movies or 64%. Not too bad. Voted up and shared.”

    1. Epic post Bruce, cheers. Your tally 16, mine 13 and Flora 5. I agree that Roger Rabbit doesn’t get talked about much anymore and seems to have faded away. The 1990s were coming up and CG animation was soon to explode on the scene which made the 2D animation in Roger Rabbit look a little flat, if you pardon the pun.

You like Jewel of the Nile more than the first one? Hmm I prefer the original, I enjoyed Turner’s transition from shy author looking for romance to vine swinging heroine. And Michael Douglas rogue adventurer turned love struck hero. Both films are enjoyable. Thanks again for the comment, vote and share, much appreciated.

  3. TURNER VIDEO PART 2 At first I thought that the STILLS were going to be sparse but in the end there was a goodly run of fine ones and my pick of them are (1) Kathleen with gun (2) her with Dennis Quaid [ a guy I always thought under-achieved his potential as a star] (3) in Peggy Sue (4) with Steve Martin in that movie about Joel again (5) with the neighbour of the Big Guy on the Hill in Prizzi’s Honour and (6) (7) and (8) photos from all 3 of the Douglas/Turner flicks

    My notes don’t record Mike’s old roommate DeVito being in any of the last 3, but your videos move forward at quite a pace so that it’s hard for even the movie buff to pick up everything. If Danny wasn’t in one of the 3 he s probably deserved to be because he was a big part of the Turner/Douglas 1980s. The two Jack Colton ones made Michael a star –“These days I’m just known as Michael Douglas’ father!” [Kirk}

I have indicated above that Kathleen’s stardom was confined exclusively to the 1980s but In a way that makes her career all the more nostalgic for me because it was in the 80s that I started taking my children to the movies regularly and Kathleen’s two action movies with Mike Douglas, Jewel of the Nile and Romancing the Stone the kids loved and would often talk about. So her video is easily worth a 97.5% to me

You and the guy who knows a thing or two about rating movies agree on 4 of Kathleen’s Top 6 best reviewed. However your 6 includes Accidental Tourist and Romancing the Stone whilst he goes for Peggy Sue and the other Jack Colton/Joan Wilder movie, Jewel of the Nile. My own preference would be for Accidental Tourist instead of Peggy Sue and for me it’s toss a coin between the 2 Colton movies. As always nice profiles from you both though. Accidental Tourist is again of special nostalgic value to me as it was a big part of the William Hurt era which like Turner’s came to a thudding halt as the 90s ushered in.

  4. Kathleen Turner ‘s heyday was in the 1980s particularly with Body Heat, Peggy Sue and the 3 movies with Michael Douglas all of which were box office successes. I never liked Roger Rabbit.

After The War of the Roses in 1989 with Douglas, Kathleen’s top star era was at an end. In the next 3 decades she made 23 films but only 3 of them were successful at the box office – Monster House (2006) in which she had only a voice role and Marley and Me (2008) and Dumb and Dumber To (2014).

In each of the latter two movies Kathleen had one of the lesser supporting roles and her name did not appear on the theatrical release posters for either of them I think that 3 of her last 4 movies went straight or almost straight to DVD because she is not given credit for them by either The Numbers Box Office Site or The Work Horse in his Kathleen Turner stats table and we all know that guy -he’s so comprehensive that if she appeared with just the kitchen sink he would normally include it!.

Best POSTERS in your Turner video are I thought A Breed Apart, Perfect Family, Simple Wish, Myrna and Myrna, Real Blonde, Jewel of the Nile, the two for Virgin Suicides, first one for Prizzi’s Honour [possibly my own fave Turner movie] and all the ones for Body Heat.

“Kathleen Turner – in her heyday one of the most gorgeous women I have ever seen on screen.” – ME. It’s time people started quoting ME on this site!

    To be continued

    1. Hi Bob, thanks for the review, rating, info, trivia and comparison, it is appreciated.

Glad you liked the posters and stills.

Yeah sadly Kathleen Turner started to fade from our screens far too soon, by the late 90s she was off my radar and lots of other lovelies were in. 😉

I think you can only see Danny Vito in the posters, not the stills, well he was too short. [wink] There’s a good shot of him between Douglas and Turner in one of the War of the Roses posters.

Btw young Jim Carrey can be seen in one of those pictures [cue mad scramble to view video] He can be spotted in the still for Peggy Sue Got Married, he has a girl on his lap. 10 years later he was a bigger star than Nic Cage and Kathleen Turner.

Only one Turner movie scored 10 out of 10 and she wasn’t even visible in it, Roger Rabbit. Her sultry, husky voice perfectly suited sexy Jessica Rabbit.

Roger Rabbit tops all the charts except Bruce’s critics chart which has Body Heat at no.1, it’s my no.2.

Turner on Jessica Rabbit – “I sign more Jessica Rabbit photos than mine, almost. I’m not kidding. Isn’t that crazy? I feel I get recognized for my voice more than for my face.”

Turner on De Vito – “Being somewhat short, he gets to casually drape his arm around parts of your anatomy that no one usually would. It’s like being groped all day long.”

“You know, I was so naive. Still am. When I arrived in L.A., Michael Douglas, Warren Beatty, Jack Nicholson, they would all call me up. And I thought: how nice, they are looking after me. It was only later I found out it was a competition to see who could get the new girl.”
