  1. Hey John. Gigi’s box office yearly rank is from Variety. On the Caron slideshow I put the box office rank by the totals in my database. I think my rank is much more accurate. 5th place seems to be a good ranking.

  2. I’ve only seen 3 of Leslie Caron’s movies – An American in Paris, Gigi and Daddy Long Legs. I have the first two on DVD and Blu-ray, great musicals.

I can’t remember if I’ve seen Father Goose, maybe when I was a kid.

Mon capitan! I thought everyone loved Gigi, strange seeing it out of the top 10 on the critics chart. It’s one of the most highly regarded musicals. No? Gigi scored 8.5 on Steve’s wonderfully accurate video scoresheet. Why even whatsisname Hirschhorn liked it! Oh well. At least An American in Paris is near the top.

Enjoyed the trivia and I even glanced at the stats, what more could you possibly want?! 🙂

Good stuff Bruce, keep em coming amigo. Vote Up!

    1. Hey Steve….thanks for stopping by and commenting. I have seen 8 to your 3 when it comes to Caron movies. As for Gigi it is one of the worst reviewed Best Picture Oscar Winning movies. I think the movie has aged very poorly. The I love little girls song seems somewhat creepy when it is song by a 60 year old man. But like you said, at least Joel liked that movie. Good feedback.

Is there a mistake in the “36th of 1958” box-office for Gigi? $301.80 seems to be a very solid box-office performance. 1958 was not that great of a box-office year to see such a high box-office performance end up #36. Wiki in their 1958 page lists Gigi as the #5 box-office hit of 1958, and that does seem more reasonable.

In the 1967 – 1968 TV Season ABC ran a series produced by MGM called Off to Se the Wizard. It was an anthology series much like the Wonderful World of Disney. When the series showed movies they were split into 2 parts like Disney did back in that era (1 hour series). 2 of Leslie’s films, Lili and The Glass Slipper made their TV debuts on this series. The series lasted only 1 year.

  5. When Leslie Caron first appeared on film, she had an irresistible gamine appeal and wide saucer eyes that glowed with innocence. This innocence was exquisitely utilized in her early musicals. Maturity added sophistication and an expanded acting range, but it also subtracted some of her individuality.
