Lyle Talbot Movies

Want to know the best Lyle Talbot movies?  How about the worst Lyle Talbot movies?  Curious about Lyle Talbot box office grosses or which Lyle Talbot movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Lyle Talbot movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences and which got the worst reviews? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.

Lyle Talbot (1902-1996) was an American actor.  Talbot has an incredible 331 acting credits on his IMDb page.  Since many of his performances were on television and low budget “B” movies we were only able to find box office information on many of his movies.  This page will rank 36 Lyle Talbot movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, shorts, cameos and movies that were not released in theaters were not included in the rankings.

Drivel part of the page:  So this page comes from a request by TCM’s Top Billed.  Top Billed is putting together a weekly classic actor/actress series in January 2017.  Week 1 he is looking at B Movie Stars like  Allan Lane; Mary Beth Hughes; Lyle Talbot; Jinx Falkenburg; Tom Conway; Ann Savage; and Robert Livingston.  He asked if we could come up with a page on one of these performers….we picked Mr. Talbot.

Lyle Talbot Movies Can Be Ranked 6 Ways In This Table

  1. I remember Lyle for playing the father of one of Beaver Cleaver’s friends on Leave it to Beaver and Ozzie Nelson’s buddy on Ozzie and Harriet. You know even though Ozzie and Harriet was on 14 years they never reran it on free TV in New York City.

I saw Plan 9 about 1980 at a worst film festival at the Beacon theater in NYC. Harry and Michael Medved hosted it. There were about 23 films shown and I saw this and Bride of the Monster and Robot Monster and White Pongo. Saw 7 of the films (each was a separate admission). This festival started right after an 11 day strike by the New York MTA, no subways or busses running.

I keep track of the films I see on index cards. In the old days I just listed as TV for seeing it on TV or T-Bx or T-M for the Bronx or Manhattan. I lived in the Bronx then and worked in Manhattan. When I moved to Queens (1998) I listed the particular theater and for TV for the last 25 years or so I listed what channel I caught it on.

      1. Hey Dan….thanks for the Oracle list. Wow Amazon Women on The Moon is packed with Oracle people. 17 of his 23 remaining Oracle people on that one list. Looking at the second list….it is actually surprising that Talbot was not on the Bacon list in 2000. Seems he was the Danny Trejo of his time….making one low budget movie after another. Looks like he and Bess Flowers made lots of movies togehter…I wonder if they even appeared in any scenes together. Only 22 Oscar winners…that seems pretty low….but I guess his low budget movies did not pull in many Oscar winners….as it looks like most of his Oscar winning co-stars are from the 1930s when he was making movies with Warner Brothers. Thanks for all of this information..I think Mr. Talbot is getting a lot of attention with all of this information….from this page, to Top Billed’s page and your Oracle research.

    2. Hey Dan…..Wow….I should have paid more attention to Talbot’s credits that did not make the page. So he was on Leave It To Beaver….I am sure I saw him….but when I watched that show all the time I only saw the kids…lol.
The Golden Turkey Awards by Medved Brothers is what got me to pay attention to Plan Nine From Outer Space. They put Ed Wood and that movie on the map. To bad Wood passed away before he became famous. The power of index cards. I had my red notebook. Then a database WoC set up for me…..to be replaced by Letterboxd.com. Which is a great way to keep track of the movies you watch. I imagine you went through lots of index cards. Glad to know I am not the only one keeping track…..makes the world seem smaller….lol.
