Owen Wilson Movies

Want to know the best Owen Wilson movies?  How about the worst Owen Wilson movies?  Curious about Owen Wilson’s box office grosses or which Owen Wilson movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Owen Wilson movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.

In 1996, Owen Wilson (1968-) debuted as an actor in Wes Anderson’s Bottle Rocket. In this low budget movie, Wilson played a lovable loser named Dignan. In my opinion, Dignan is one of the best movie characters in the last 20 years. Bottle Rocket did very little at the box (failed to gross over one million dollars) but it got Wilson at least one huge fan….besides me. That fan was Ben Stiller who immediately gave Wilson a role in the Ben Stiller directed movie The Cable Guy.

Since The Cable Guy, Wilson and Stiller have appeared in another 9 movies together. Some of their movies together have been huge hits, all three Meet the Parents movies, all three Night at the Museum movies, and Starsky and Hutch.  He has also starred in the critically acclaimed movies The Royal Tenenbaums and Midnight in Paris. When Owen Wilson goes it alone, without Stiller, the results have been mixed. He has megahits like Marley and Me, The Wedding Crashers, and Cars. But he has had numerous disappointments like Drillbit Taylor, How Do You Know, Marmaduke, I Spy, and The Big Bounce.

His IMDb page shows 59 acting credits from 1994-2015. This page will rank 43 Owen Wilson movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, shorts, cameos and movies that were not released in theaters were not included in the rankings.

  1. This page popped up briefly yesterday and I noticed there was no comment from me or any of the regulars. Looking at the dates on the available comments, all date from 2015. Strange!

I’ve seen 27 of the 45 films on the chart. Favorites are – Armageddon, Night at the Museum trilogy, Meet the Parents, The Life Aquatic, The Royal Tenenbaums, Cars trilogy, Wedding Crashers and The Grand Budapest Hotel.

He’s never been able to top Armageddon at the box office.

The Grand Budapest Hotel tops both UMR and Critics charts, no complaints here, it was another enjoyable slice of quirkiness from Wes Anderson.

    Nice work Bruce. Vote Up!

      1. Hey Steve…..hmmmmm. Well…..I missed your November 19th comment….caught you November 22nd comment. Interesting point about some missing Owen Wilson comments. Owen was a “Hub Page” selection…so it has been around awhile. There were a couple of pages that I accidentally deleted when flipping from one website to another. I am betting Owen joins Cary Grant and George Clooney as examples of that happening. I might have to return to the Way Back Machine to find those missing comments.

Thanks for the tally count, visit and comment. Tally count: You 27 and me….counting…42 for me…I have missed his snake movie (Anaconda), his dog movie (Marmaduke) and his Aniston movie (She’s Funny That Way). Of your favorites….I also put Armageddon, The Royal Tenenbaums and Wedding Crashers in my Top 5. They would be joined by Bottle Rocket and No Escape.

At this point in his career….not thinking he will ever beat Armageddon when it comes to box office numbers…that is a fun movie for sure. Glad you have no issues on The Grand Budapest Hotel topping many of the lists. Goood stuff as always.

    1. Hey Shelly….yep he was lucky indeed to work with Jackie twice….I have always preferred Shanghai Nights over Shanghai Noon…..as I think the story is better and filled with lots of little tidbits….like Charlie Chaplain and the Jack the Ripper being mentioned but not being huge parts of the movie. Thanks for stopping by….and thanks for reminding me that this hub needs a remodel.
