1. Pamela Suzette Grier was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 1949.
 
2.  Pam Grier moved to Los Angeles, California, in 1967, where she was initially hired as a receptionist at American International Pictures.
 
3.  Pam Grier sang back-up for singer-composer Bobby Womack.  Womack’s composition and 1972 recording of the song “Across 110th Street” was the theme song of the film Jackie Brown (1997), which marked a major comeback for Grier in the starring and title role. She was nominated for a Golden Globe® and an NAACP Image Award for her performance.
 
4. Pam Grier’s early films such as 1971’s Women in Cages and The Big Doll House were filmed in the Philippines.  While there she contracted a deadly tropical disease and nearly died. She lost her hair and was temporarily blind for almost a month. It took nearly a year for her to recover.
 
5. Pam Grier and Quentin Tarantino Trivia Part 1:  The character Alabama in 1993’s True Romance  was named after Pam Grier’s character in 1971’s Women in Cages.  In the original script, Clarence(Christian Slater’s character) even mentions that the name sounds like a Pam Grier Character.  True Romance was written by Tarantino.

Pam Grier and Quentin Tarantino Trivia Part 2:   Grier auditioned for two parts in Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction (1994) but didn’t land either role.  When Tarantino decided to make Elmore Leonard’s novel, Rum Punch, into a movie he thought about Grier.  He renamed the novel’s “Jackie Burke” to “Jackie Brown” as an homage to Greer’s Foxy Brown (1974) movie.   He then cast Grier in the lead role.
 
7. Pam Grier is considered to be the first African-American female to headline an action film.
 
8. Pam Grier has never been married.  She has been romantically linked to basketball Hall of Fame players Kareem Abdul-Jabaar & Wilt Chamberlain, actors Richard Pryor & Freddie Prinze and Soul Train’s Don Cornelius.
