1. Roy Richard Scheider was born in Orange, New Jersey in 1932.
2. Roy Scheider was an amateur boxer from 1946 to 1949. Scheider broke his nose in his second fight….which was his only loss. He finished his boxing career with 10 straight knockout wins and an overall 13-1 record. He traded in his boxing gloves to become an actor.
3. Roy Scheider was nominated for two Oscars®: Best Supporting Actor for 1971’s The French Connection and Best Actor for 1979’s All That Jazz.. He received one Golden Globe® nomination: Best Actor for 1979’s All That Jazz.

Thanks also for explaining to me some of the abbreviations. Political journalists have a habit of using abbreviations for eg important domestic and world organisations so that you don’t whow who the h**l they’re talking about; and it’s true that The Work Horse does take some to me mystrious ‘short cuts’ in his expressions. For example I initially thought lol meant “Lots of Love.”
Your information about and your comments on Last Embrace/Still of the Night pleased me. The lovely theme music to the latter is Chopin’s classical So Deep is the Night which was also one of the main themes to Hudson/Wyman’s 1954 Magnificent Obsession. Lyrics were put to it in the music industry and I have in my music collection a version sung by John McCormack:

“Good ole Roy. An underrated actor. He has a great Top 4. #5 Sorcerer is one that I have wanted to see for a while. Favorites would include #1 Jaws, #13 Blue Thunder and #21Jaws 2. I know Jaws 2 is not nearly as good as Jaws….but 21st? Number 16 is an underrated movie. I remember when it came out, it fizzled at the box office….but was a huge VHS renter….ah the memories of my video store days. Voted up and shared.”
Hi Bruce, I’ve seen Sorcerer a few times, not a firm favorite, the original Wages of Fear was better. I have them both on blu-ray.
Blue Thunder I’ve watched many times back in my VHS years. Jaws 2 is 20th on your critics chart so not much better than my 21st place ranking. 2010 was a big favorite of mine, saw it at the cinema, stunning visuals before the CGI era.

***ADDITIONAL TRIVIA: Last Embrace gets poor to so-so reviews from the ‘Kingmakers’: IMDB 61% YOU 62% WORK HORSE 52% but I liked it. It was apparently intended as a tribute to the suspense work of Hitchcock and I see shades of Eastwood’s 1971 Play Misty for Me in it. Janet Margolin the female lead was in 1965’s Morituri with Brando in which she gets gang-raped. Sadly in real life she died young at the age of 50.

‘Sorcerer’ was an expensive flop on release but over the years has attained a strong cult following, with some calling it William Friedkin’s masterpiece. I never warmed to it preferring the original.
Friedkin’s masterpiece is The Exorcist, IMO of course. 🙂

Regarding two of your favorites ‘Still of the Night’ has one strong rating and that was from the Radio Times Movie Guide which gives it 8 out of 10 “a sleekly crafted movie with performances to match”.
‘Last Embrace’ gets 3 out of 4 from Leonard Maltin who writes “..one of the better Hitchcock-influenced suspense thrillers offers good performances and a punchy climax at Niagara Falls.”
I wouldn’t mind watching both.
