  1. Hello Bruce, did you have some box office info for the movie “Hercules” released in 1958 or 1959 ?
It’s the first movie starring Steve Reeves as Hercules ; (the other is Hercules Unchained and you have it in your yearly review of 1959)
So the original Hercules starring Steve Reeves has, according to several sources US rentals of 5 million…
Have you some reliable info about this movie ?
    Thanks a lot !

    1. Hey Bobby….that is fixed on the 1958 page and the trailer page….I had it spelled a total of 3 times on the website…..thanks for the catch.

  2. Hi

Wow, 1958 the year of my birth! A couple of films really stand out. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, the performances in it were so superb, especially the father and son scene near the end. The Big Country, brilliant cast, especially Burl Ives. Aunty Mame, probably Russell’s best chance at getting an Oscar. Gigi, I know some people on the site don’t like it but it was MGM’S last great musical. Some of the songs in it were fantastic. But it really marked the end of an era.
I quite enjoyed South Pacific and Teacher’s Pet. But you can see cinema attendances were dropping and T.V. audiences were on the rise. And music was becoming the mass entertainment rather than cinema.

    1. Hey Chris.
      1. You must have been Paul Newman’s good luck charm….you get born and he turns into a superstar….lol.
      2. The Big Country is one of my favorite and westerns…and favorite films of all-time….so I am glad to see you mention that movie.
      3. Gigi was huge back then….but like you wrote….others here are not huge fans of that one….I am not a huge musical fan….so it is a one and done movie for me….but glad you liked the movie. Caron is awesome in the movie.
      4. Teacher’s Pet is a fun movie…….Gable trying to do a Grant role…..is interesting to watch.
      5. Good point about music becoming bigger than cinema….thank you Elvis….lol.
      Good feedback.

  4. Hello Bruce,

I’ve seen 22 movies of this list. Little better than 1957. Vertigo, Vikings and Dracula are my favorites. In France, the Young Lions and Vikings were big success in France. They grossed respectively $1.88M and $1.47M, or in adjusted : $33.4M and $27.7M. They attracted more than thrre millions people in theatres.

About that, I sent you an email this morning.
