After attending USC he joins a comedy/improvisation group called The Groundlings. Ferrell lands a spot as a Saturday Night Live cast member in 1995. His Steve Butabi character on SNL gets Ferrell his first starring role in the movie A Night at the Roxbury (1998). In 2003 he starred in this box office hits Old School and Elf. Since then he has appeared in one box office hit after another.
3. Will Ferrell was chosen over Steve Carell in 1995 to join Saturday Night Live. I think it is safe to say that Carell was able to rebound from that.
