UMR Review of 8-Bit Christmas (2021)
Maybe I am old, but this movie brought back some good memories. The movie takes in place in two periods. In current times, Neil Patrick Harris is our guide and the late 1980s, Winslow Fegley leads the way. Movie revolves the quest to get a Nintendo for Christmas. Younger kids will enjoy the humor a lot more than adults. Adults will like the family relationships in the movie. I found the last 10 minutes very emotional …. which really, really surprised me. Final thought: A fun movie for the entire family.

Neil Patrick Harris was actually pretty good in 2 yearend films , this and The Matrix (one saving grace). I call this a remake of A Christmas Story, set 40 years later with Steve Zahn doing Darren McGavin, the search to get the elusive toy etc. A Christmas Story came out in 1983 set in the 40’s and this one in 2021 in the 80’s.
Useless trivia question, Jean Shepherd who wrote ‘A Christmas Story” and narrated it was married to what actress who’s buried a couple of sections away from my parents in a cemetery in the Bronx.
