2016 films I saw in theaters (usually early in the year) that I gave 3 1/2 or 4 stars too.

    ELLE (FR.)
    GOLD
    HIDDEN FIGURES
    LA LA LAND
    PATRIOTS DAY

    Honorable mention, pictures nominated from 2017 that didn’t make my top 10 of the year;

    DISASTER ARTIST
    LADY BIRD
    LOGAN LUCKY
    REBEL IN THE RYE
    STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI
    THEIR FINEST (U.K.)
    UNITED KINGDOM
    VICTORIA & ABDUL (U.K.)

    And now without further adieu, don’t laugh these are my top 10 of 2017;

    10 GOODBYE CHRISTOPHER ROBIN
    9 FOUNDER, THE
    8 DETROIT
    7 WOMEN’S BALCONY
6 THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EPPING, MISSOURI
    5 BATTLE OF THE SEXES
    4 LBJ
    3 AMERICAN MADE
    2 BOOK OF HENRY
    1 DOG’S PURPOSE

      Hey Dan
      1. Thanks for your Top 10 of 2017.
      2. Of the 23 movies you listed….I have seen 12 of them.
      3. The ones I really enjoyed Last Jedi (made my Top 10), Hidden Figures and Disaster Artist. *The Founder did not make my 2017 list because, it was released in 2016…. but it was one of the best movies I saw in 2017.
      4. Book of Henry started off well….but got too dark for me. But it was memorable.
      5. Dog’s Purpose was fun…and we own it on Blu-Ray….but I have to say I am surprised it is first on your list.
      6. Ones that I am looking forward to are…3 Billboards, Lady Bird and LBJ.
      Good stuff.

Dog’s Purpose is one of my weird best of year pictures (and it was the first 2017 release I saw). I have and liked What Happened to Sunday but it overstays its welcome like I, Tonya. Both pictures were going gangbusters for me (potential 4 stars) that seemed to run 20 minutes too long. I have but have yet to watch from last year Manifesto with Cate Blanchett playing 13 parts. I also have an old Lupino Lane silent comedy where he plays I think 28 roles, in a 20 minute flic. Lupino is Ida Lupino’s uncle.

Hey Dan….”Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”……I liked A Dog’s Purpose…..just not among my favorites of the year. I agree What Happened To Monday could have been about 20 minutes shorter. I have yet to see I, Tonya…but I want to. As for Manifesto….she is getting some Oscar buzz….but right now she seems to be on the outside looking in….when in comes to a nomination. Interesting about the Lupino silent comedy.

Best Actress Strong Possibles This Year
          Meryl Streep in The Post
          Margot Robbie in I, Tonya
          Frances McDormand in 3 Billboards
Sally Hawkins in The Shape of Water

That leaves about 10 solid performances fighting for that last spot……it is going to be fun.

I’ve only heard bad things about Shotcaller, kinda makes me want to see it before the year ends.

Hey Weihnachten-mama. It has a pretty stout 7.4 IMDb rating. It is not told in chronological order which might make it hard to follow for some. But unraveling the story is half the fun of the movie.
