Possibly Interesting Facts About George Miller

1. George Miller was born in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia in 1945.

2.  George Miller raised the money for 1979’s Mad Max by working as an emergency room doctor..  Miller got the idea to make Mad Max when seeing hospital patients suffer many motorcycle and automobile accidents when working as an emergency room doctor. Most of the injuries he saw were put into the movie.

3. Warner Bros. gave George Miller the rights to Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981) and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985) to get him to step aside as the director of Contact (1997).

4. In an interview with the Australian magazine Cinema Papers in the early 1990s, director George Miller revealed that the shoot for The Witches Of Eastwick had been extremely difficult, because he was initially unfamiliar with Hollywood-style communication. In a meeting to discuss ways to reduce the budget, Miller volunteered to give up his trailer because he was always needed on the set and had no time to use it. The studio concluded that he was a pushover, so they began to interfere with his production requests. If he asked for fifty extras, the studio would provide a dozen. If he asked for two cameras, they would provide one. Miller decided to fight fire with fire, and refused to shoot each scene until his production demands were met. The studio responded by looking for a new director, but were prevented by Jack Nicholson, who supported Miller and vowed to walk off the production if he was replaced.

5. There are two directors named George Miller.  The other George Miller is best known for directing 1982’s The Man From Snowy River and 1990’s The NeverEnding Story Part 2.

Fewer films than I was expecting from Australian George Miller. But than again New Zealander Peter Jackson has hardly been prolific too the past 40 years. Jackson directed just 13 films, okay 7 of them were huge.

I’ve seen all of Miller’s films except Lorenzo’s Oil. I liked all 10 of the films I’ve seen, top favorites are the Mad Max series, The Witches of Eastwick and Twilight Zone the Movie, Miller’s segment ‘Nightmare at 20,000 ft’ was the best of the four in the movie.

My favorite of the 4 Mad Max films was the 2nd one, The Road Warrior.

    Good work Bruce. Vote Up!

Hey Steve. Thanks for checking out our George Miller page. I like you have seen all of these movies with the exception of Lorenzo’s Oil. Right there with you on your favorites…and right there with you about his section in Twilight Zone the Movie. When I think about that movie….Lithgow’s crazed passenger always comes to my mind first. And finally…The Road Warrior is also my of the Mad Max movies. Heck out thoughts always seem 100% in sync with required to Mr. Miller. Good stuff as always.
