Been thinking about this for the last few days. My last couple of pages were on Frank Lloyd and Frank Borzage……they seem to have a lot in common…..which I find strange since one guy was born in the United States and one was born in England. Here are some items I have been thinking about.
    1. Obviously….both are named Frank
    2. Both were born in the late 1800s…..Lloyd was born 1886, Borzage was born in 1894.
    3. They both started their movie careers as actors. Lloyd first acting credit was 1913, Borzage first acting credit in 1912.
    4. Both stopped acting in the late 1910s….Lloyd appeared in 63 acting projects from 1913 to 1916….while Borzage appeared in 112 acting projects from 1912 to 1918 (Borzage played himself in 1957’s Jeanne Eagels).
    5. Borzage’s first directed project was in 1913, Lloyd’s first directed project was in 1914.
    6. Borzage’s first major directing success was in 1920, Lloyd’s first major directing success was in 1922.
    7. Both won two Best Directing Oscars.
    8. Each won their first Best Director Oscar for directing a silent movie in the late 1920s….Borzage for 7th Heaven in 1927, Lloyd for The Divine Lady in 1928.
    9. Each won their second Best Director Oscar for direction a “talkie” movie in the early 1930s….Borzage for The Bad Girl in 1931, Lloyd for Cavalcade in 1933.
    10. Both were married more than once….each married an actress and a writer.
    11. Both were very busy in the 1910s, 1920s and 1930s. Both slowed down in the 1940s and both only directed 2 movies in the 1950s.
    12. Both won the George Eastman award for distinguished contribution to the art of film.
    13. Both got their Hollywood Walk of Fame Star in 1960
    14. Borzage last directed movie was in 1959, Lloyd’s last directed movie was in 1955.
    15. Both died in the early 1960s….Lloyd died in 1960, Borzage died in 1962.
    16. Both were laid to rest in the same cemetery, Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California.
Well I think it is interesting.

That is pretty interesting. I think you should include it on the pages as well. Sounds like they were the “Franks” before we had the “Chrises”. Your book arrived yesterday. Shocked to see my name in it. Thank you for that.

The Franks would have been Frank Capra, Frank Lloyd and Frank Borzage.

Hey In the Shadows…..that is pretty good thinking about the Franks and the Chrises. Frank Capra is another director at his peak as the same time as Borzage and Lloyd. Good observation!

I agree in the shadows. This is a pretty interesting list, but it took me a while to find it after reading your comment. So I would say put it in the page versus in the commentary box.

Hey In The Shadows. Thank you for buying the book. It has gotten a nice response from those that have read it already. Maybe in the future we will have Movie Lists 2. Glad you found your name in the book. I think I added in a couple of UMR regulars for my third book.

As for my 16 trivia lists on the Franks….I am glad you liked it as well. I will indeed either include the 16 on their pages or go ahead and do a page just on the 16. Good suggestion.

Hey Flora…thanks for checking out both of our Frank pages. Tally count: Dan 23, 5 for you, 3 for Steve and me in last with 2 movies seen. I have only seen one of your 5 seen….the classic and enjoyable Mutiny on the Bounty. Good stuff as always.

Hey Dan. Thanks for the feedback and tally count on Frank Lloyd. If you add up the tally counts for the last two pages….your total would be over 60…..while Steve and myself would still be able to use one hand to count up the movies we have seen. In this case you have seen 23 of his movies, while Steve gets 2nd with 3 and I sit in third with 2. I suspect…Flora will easily top my total and Steve’s total. Good stuff as always.

Hmm I’ve only seen 3 Frank Lloyd films, I expected more. They are – Mutiny on the Bounty, Wells Fargo and Blood on the Sun.

Mutiny on the Bounty tops all the charts and is my favorite of the three I’ve mentioned.

    Good stuff Bruce. Vote Up!

Hey Steve….thanks for the thoughts on Frank L. I have only seen 2 of his movies….Mutiny on the Bounty and The Howards of Virginia….the latter is one of the worst Cary Grant movies. So the tally count would be 23 for Dan, 3 for you and 2 for me. As for his two Best Director Oscar winning movies…I have not seen either. According to my records…I have only missed 4 Best Director Oscar winning movies….three of them are in the last two pages I wrote…Frank Lloyd and Frank Borzage. Good stuff as always.
