UMR Review of The Last Duel
Some of Ridley Scott’s movies are among my favorites of all-time. Movies like Bladerunner, Kingdom of Heaven, Alien and the pretty much despised A Good Year. I had read some great things about this one, so maybe my expectations were too high.
While I liked the movie, this was far from being one of Mr. Scott’s better movies. It looks great. The performances are good. I liked how the movie played out…. with us seeing the same story through the eyes of the three major characters. The final duel scene is pretty well done, but the other action scenes are not as impressive. Another complaint would be the movie seems to be missing a chapter. We get to see the world through Matt Damon’s, Adam Driver’s and Jodie Comer’s eyes ….. but what about through the eyes of a neutral force (the audience). In other words, let’s see the story as it really unfolded. Final thought: A well done movie, but not a movie that begs to be watched again.
I liked the final duel but found the rest of the film dull. I’m not big on films shot from different points of view. Interesting that Jodie Comar was in Free Guy.
Hey Dan. Good mini review of The Last Duel. I thought about doing a page on Jodie Comer…but so far she only has a handful of movies….she was awesome in Free Guy….which was one of my favorite movies of 2021….already seen it three times.
