A warm welcome to your Glenn Close video. She was never perceived to be in the Streep league as an actress or in the Julia Roberts bracket as a box office star but Glenn had a fine thespian range, playing such diverse roles as the Hitchock type heroine in Jagged Edge, the homicidal nymphomaniac in Fatal Attraction and of course Crumyrna De Vil.
However my own personal favourite Close role was in the 1995 TV production of Serving in Silence which dealt with prejudices in the US military. There are various kinds of courage such as physical bravery when John McClane takes on a 100 bad guys armed with just a tooth brush.
Then there is the mental and psychological courage of the individual who personally takes on the might of the Establishment in a peaceful struggle. In Serving in Silence Glenn fought the military to defend her right to her own sexual identity and I admired her as much as I admired my heroes like the Duke with his ”A man’s gotta do” routine or Marlon leading the waterfront revolt against Lee J Cobb and his gangster mob.

A good actress and highly respected too, so I was surprised to find that she’d never won an Oscar, Globe or BAFTA for her movie work. Though she did win the Globe a couple of times for her TV work – The Lion in Winter and Damages. She was nominated for the TV movie you mentioned in your post.
I left out a strange cameo in Hook in which she played a male pirate.
Her role in Guardians of the Galaxy wasn’t very big but she did play ‘Commander of the Nova Corps’ and it was important to the film. The sci-fi blockbuster was highly rated so it wasn’t me boosting it into the top spot.
Only one of Close’s films scored 10 out of 10 from my sources – ‘The World According to Garp’ but that one source wasn’t enough to get it into the top 5.
Two more scored 9 – Dangerous Liaisons and Reversal of Fortune.
And 9 films scored 8 out 10.
Guardians of the Galaxy tops the IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes charts. And it’s tied with Reversal of Fortune at no.1 on Bruce’s critics chart.

Favorites would include #1 Guardians of the Galaxy…..though she has nothing to do with it being my favorite…small part. #4 The Natural…just re-watched this one last week. #5 Tarzan…one of my favorite Disney animated movies. #7 World According to Garp..love the first half of this one….second half is such a downer. #9 Air Force One…great action movie…Ford made an awesome Die Hard on plane movie. #6 The Big Chill…I really loved this movie when I was younger….now it seems really dated. Hi Bruce, you beat my tally as usual, I’ve seen 9 of the 30, Flora 7. I haven’t seen Garp or The Big Chill or the Dalmation movies. But I did see Mars Attacks! [Bruce winces] Not one of your favorites I know despite the stellar cast. Guardians of the Galaxy gave her worldwide exposure and to a different audience than the ones usually watching her films, hopefully she’ll turn up again in the franchise.
