    1. Hey Dan….good to see Jim Broadbent so high on the Oracle list. 39th might not beat Michael Caine…but it is still pretty impressive. He has been one of the busiest actors working in the last 30 years. I agree it is surprising that Broadbent and Timothy Spall have made so many movies together. Surprised Broadbent and Willis have not crossed paths in a movie….but I suspect it could still happen. As for the second list….44 Oscar winning co-stars is above average…but lower than I would have guessed. As always your lists offer up some great nuggets of trivia….and your efforts are greatly appreciated.

  2. I have seen 5 Jim Broadbent movies.

The HIGHEST rated movie I have seen is Moulin Rouge!

The highest rated movie I have NOT seen is Harry Potter.

The LOWEST rated movie I have seen is Little Voice.

All of the Jim Broadbent movies are favourites:

    Moulin Rouge!
    Bridget Jones’s Diary
Topsy Turvey – about the making of The Mikado
    Iris
    Little Voice

    1. Hey Flora….thanks for checking out our Jim Broadbent page. Your tally of 5 is slightly more than I would have guessed. Of the 5 you have seen….Topsy Turvey is the one I have not seen. The other four are all quality movies. Iris is good but not one I want to re-visit. Moulin Rouge is one of the few musicals I like. Little Voice has some great performances…especially from Sir Caine. Bridget Jones’ Diary is pretty entertaining…and so much better than the sequels. Good stuff as always.

  3. Not being a Harry Potter fan my 3 fave Jim Broadbent movies are The Crying Game, Le Week-end and especially Little Voice. Being a fan of Sir Maurice I thoroughly enjoyed his tour-de-force performance in the latter movie for which he won a Golden Globe and a BAFTA nomination. I still experience a thrill when in TV re-runs, I watch him taunt his tormentors with a drunken rendition of Roy Orbison’s hit song It’s Over, to which Sir M adds his own lyric “It’s ******g over!”

Sir Maurice rarely disappoints in ANY role of course but I thought that the role of Ray Say in Little Voice was particularly suited to his talents and style. Speaking of bad language in films and the special suitability of roles to particular performers, it struck me as I watched Bryan Cranston in 2016’s TV movie All the Way that actors who are not especially associated with heavy dramatic performances on the screen can nevertheless be as suited, if not more-so, to a role as another who specializes in high drama.

All the Way tells of the first year of LBJ’s presidency following the assassination of JFK and whilst Cranston is brilliant as Johnson it occurred to me that an equally good job could probably be done by Bruce Willis [when he’s not making Christmas movies]: on top of Lyndon’s political brilliance he had a reputation as a prolific swearer and vulgarian, and Bryan’s LBJ gives us wall to wall profanity throughout. [What the film reveals, and I hadn’t known, is that as a boy the terrified Lyndon hid beneath the floor of his house in total darkness and claustrophobia while above him marauding Indians searched the premises to kill him.]

I hadn’t known either that, like Albert Finney, Jim Broadbent declined an OBE – another of Steve’s Brit idols who refreshingly takes a stand against what many people perceive as a system of snobbery! Anyway Jim’s net worth is reported at 5 million and IMDB credits him with 23 acting awards and 54 nominations, all of which is excellent for an English supporting actor who doesn’t really enjoy any great Hollywood promotion campaign or hype, but quietly works away under the radar of stardom to churn out high quality work. This new page is therefore “Voted Up!”

    1. Hey Bob. Good to see you mention Little Voice….that is an interesting movie….and one of Caine’s more interesting roles. I also enjoyed Caine and Broadbent in King of Thieves. Interesting points about actors in different roles and Bryan Cranston’s LBJ. Yep Sir Jim did not happen….I wonder why he refused that honor…I am sure that information is out there somewhere. Looks like Jim has collected a nice nest egg from his acting….at 70…I feel he has some more good roles coming….heck….if he follows Caine’s path…he might have some more blockbusters coming in his 70s and 80s. Good stuff as always.

  4. Broad Jimbent gets a UMR page, nice.

I’ve seen 28 of the 70 films on the chart, more than I expected.

Favorites include – Hairy Potter and the Deathly Hollows, Hairy Potter and the Goblet of Doom, The Lion, the Witch and the Broom Cupboard, The Legend of Tarzan, Indiana Jones and the Lost Kingdom of the Golden Ark, Bridget Jones’s Dairy, The Dogs of War, Time Bandits, Gangs of New York, Robots, Paddington Station, Brazil, Peru and Ecuador.

Top rated films I’ve missed include – Topsy Turvy and Brooklyn.

Declined the OBE eh? Another honour decliner. No knighthood for you Jimmy.

    Good stuff Bruce. Vote Up!

    1. Hey Steve. Thanks for your thoughts on Jim Broadbent. I have seen 42 of his movies….including the Top 17. My first miss is #18 Topsy-Turvy…which I want to see. Looking at your favorites…I have seen most of them….though I missed the Brazil sequels Peru and Ecuador. Speaking off Brazil….that is one of my all-time favorite movies….either my last viewing or my second to last viewing is when I finally realized Broadbent was the plastic surgeon….never connected those dots. In many ways Broadbent reminds me of Michael Caine….maybe a poor man’s Caine….but he has had a very solid year. The first time I really noticed him was in Moulin Rouge….one of the few musicals I actually enjoy….goods stuff as always.
