    “Tatum O’Neal was a true original when she first debuted in Paper Moon – a tough, independent kid who knew her way around better than most adults. She has since gone through that inevitable awkward phase encounterd by child actors in transition, but her talent is strong enough to see her through.”

      Back in 1983 Joel and his Rating The Movie Stars co-writers were guessing O’Neal was going to rebound to her glory years. Granted she still has time, but so far, they got this one wrong.

    I saw the top 2. bad news bears a 9 , I probably overrated this since I knew one of the teammates . gary cavagnaro played the fat kid and went to elementary school with my brother. paper moon an 8 is worth watching but probably received too much Oscar attention because of the father daughter acting duo.

      Hey bob cox….thanks for stopping by. Tally count: Cogerson 7, Flora 3, bob cox 2, Bob 0, Steve 0. Wow….I am impressed that you knew Engelberg…..fond memories of that movie as a kid. I think 9 is pretty good mark for that one. O’Neal and Matthau are fun to watch. Now the sequels are horrible…especially the one with Tony Curtis. I am not a fan of Paper Moon. Granted it has been years since I watched it. Good stuff.

    I have seen three Tatum O’Neal movies. None of them are favourites. In order of preference, they are:

    Paper Moon
    Basquiat
    The Bad News Bears

      Hey Flora….thanks for checking out our Tatum O’Neal page. Tally count….me 7, you 3, bob cox 2 and Steve and Bob at 0. I liked Bad News Bears, found Tatum difficult to watch in Paper Moon and have not seen Basquiat. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Ms. Tatum.

    This is awkward, I haven’t seen any of Tatum O’Neal’s films on the chart. I’ve heard of her of course and have seen clips from some of her early films. Ironic that I’ve seen more ‘Harold Russell’ (who he?) films than Tatum O’Neal films. [snicker]

    I think I must have groaned when I’d read in the papers that cute little Tatum married John McEnroe back in the 1980s “you cannot be serious!”. 🙂

    Good stuff Bruce. Vote Up!

      Hey Steve….so Oscar winner Harold tops Oscar winner Tatum in the Lensman tally contest. I bet if you lived in the United States you would have seen The Bad News Bears….that was a big movie here….spawing numerous bad sequels….but the first one is pretty good. Added trivia, Walter Matthau’s coach is based on Burt Lancaster. I have seen 7 of her movies…you and Bob got shut out. Flora is sitting at three. Good stuff as always.

    As the above tables show Tatum had a glorious but brief career as a child/teenage star in the 1970s but then counted for little in terms of big screen stardom. On top of the films listed by Bruce she was in 16 TV productions between 1984 and 2018. In the pipeline for her currently is just one project – at post production stage a drama in which 7th billed Tatum has a supporting role as a doctor.

    The Celebrity net worth site quotes Tatum’s net worth as half a million dollars as of 2015 [approx 530 thousand in today’s dollars] which is very low in today’s entertainment business where they seem to THROW money at both the high and the low; and Tatum joins Joel Hirschhorn as one of just 3 celebs whose net worths I have PERSONALLY seen quoted as under 1 million dollars in today’s money. The net worth of Tatum’s father Ryan was assessed as $15 million last year.

    I have not seen even one of the 21 films listed above and have watched none of her TV work except for a TV movie 2018’s Runaway Romance which by coincidence I viewed just 10 days ago. It was routine but passable entertainment -as Steve knows I am a sentimental old cod! – if your expectations were not too ambitious and her own performance too was routine;

      Hey Bob…..I agree….the start of her career was indeed glorious…but it faded quickly. She does get a mention in Joel’s book….so her dual status of Joel and Oscar winner got this page…she beat out Brooke Shields. Wow…that net worth is not too impressive. Strange timing that you saw one of her tv movies. I have seen 7 of her movies. Good stuff as always.
