153 new UMR pages written in 2016

2.38 days between new UMR pages in 2016….our lowest ratio ever!

Top 5 Viewed Pages of 2016

If there is a best then there has to be a worst.  Our least viewed UMR movie page is Russell Crowe….with only 345 views for the entire year.

Top 5 Viewed “New” Pages of 2016

Best Stats of 2016 at UMR.com?  Easily the comments received. 22,817 comments were posted in 2016.  Granted half were my responses…but still that is over 11,400 comments…or 31 comments a day!

UMR Hall of Fame Commenters in ABC Order (People With At Least 50 comments)

  • Bob – our Brando/Crawford/Ladd and billing expert – he has been reading our pages for years….but stepped out of the shadows in 2016 and started commenting…he might be more aware of what is on our website than we do
  • BryRog57  – the top two UMR pages of 2016…(Pixar v DreamWorks & Marvel v D.C.) were his suggestions….our top sharer of links
  • Chris – makes great UMR subject requests and provides well thought out and interesting comments on most of our pages
  • Dan…..our Kevin Bacon Oracle expert……he posts tons of information that help add to our pages….his movie databases put our movie databases to shame
  • Flora – our best Candanian commenter….huge Peck/Widmark fan..another HubPage alumni
  • John…..our Gary Cooper expert…..he makes great UMR movie subject suggestions….his vast movie knowledge especiallly when it comes to color versus black and white movies has been a welcome addition to our website
  • Laurent…..a fellow classic movie gross treasure hunter….he made our USC Warner Brother ledger trip even more successful with his sharing of information
  • Lyle…..almost 10% of all the new UMR pages in 2016 came from his suggestions…he has been providing awesome comments for a few years
  • Søren…..another HubPage alumni….he has been making comments and suggestions since 2011
  • Stein….one of the most prolific commenters on the page….rarely makes suggestions…but if he did they would quickly move up the request list….hint hint
  • WoC….she might not comment too often…..but she is the brains of our team….leaving HubPages?…her idea…..creating a database that made it easy to write new pages?..her idea….creating a computer program that automatically calculates adjusted box office grosses? ….her idea.  I could go on and on….but just know WoC is a huge reason for our successful 2016.  I did come up with the “…….” seen in so……many comments.
Ben-Hur is Steve Lensman’s favorite movie…..granted it was the 1959 version and not this 2016 version..but this is a page that is looking at 2016

Thought we forgot Steve Lensman?  Nope we did not.  Just  saving the best for last.  Steve and I have been commenting on each other’s web pages since 2011.  Our combined comments have reached over 10,000! Steve and I befriended each other when we were both active members at HubPages.  On our second website…CogersonMovieScore.com…..it was often just the me and Steve commenting on my latest movie pages.  Steve was involved in the naming of this website.  He talked us out of naming it ….”Ultimate Movie Ranker”…because it sounded too much like “Wanker”…which is apparently not a good thing in London.  Steve was the last person to comment on CMS.com and the second person (WoC was first) to comment on UMR.com.  So Steve…just want to tell you something…..THANK YOU for all the time you have given our movie pages….it is greatly appreciated.

UMR In Memoriam 2016

Every year we lose lots of people….2016 seemed like a horrible year…especially if you are a rock star or an actor. The double whammy of Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds was especially hard to take in….not good Christmas news at all. We do not write a UMR page on every movie actor that passes away…..but if it is somebody we feel connected to ….it seems to make us feel better.  In 2016 that happened 4 times.

UMR Pages Written After The Celebrity Passed Away

David Bowie passed away on January 11th, 2016..the news was so shocking….that we wrote this page as a way to deal with his passing.

Anton Yelchin passed away on June 19th 2016….his death was the result of a freak accident….which I found even stranger because I had just watched his Odd Thomas and was reading the book.

Gene Wilder passed away August 29th 2016.   When Willie Wonka passed away I was devasted.  This page made me feel better…and it turned out to be one of our most popular pages of the year.

Carrie Fisher passed away December 27th 2016.  When I first wrote this page..Fisher was in the hospital following her heart attack….sadly a few days later Princess Leia was no longer with us.

UMR Pages Written Before The Celebrity Passed Away

Garry Marshall…actually wrote this page about 10 days before his passing.  Had no idea he was sick….so his passing was shocking.

Debbie Reynolds….this page was written years before she passed away.

Some of the Other Actors/Actresses That Passed Away In 2016

  1. Alan Rickman…..RIP Hans Gruber
  2. Oscar winner Patty Duke Astin
  3. Robert Vaughn
  4. Zsa Zsa Gabor
  5. Oscar winner George Kennedy
  6. Abe Vigoda
  7. Garry Shandling
  8. Guy Hamilton…James Bond director
  9. William Schallert,
  10. Ken Howard
  11. Burt Kwouk…Pink Panther’s Cato
  12. Gloria DeHaven
  13. Kenny Baker…Star Wars’ R2D2
  14. Michael Cimino….Oscar winning director

Finally….thanks to everybody that visited these pages and made 2016 a very successful year for us. Looking forward to an even better 2017.

  1. Cogerson, you continue to impress me. I enjoy being Wife of Cogerson. As Katie said, you do not have your database, and not even a computer, since you are sharing computer time with whichever family member we happen to be spending time. Is now the point in time I need to tell you that I brought a laptop with me? And the cool book on WordPress that I picked up as we cruised through Tennessee? Yeah, we could implement many ideas from it to keep up with your competition.

    1. Hey WoC……it has been a challenge this trip…..but I am pretty happy with the information that had made it to the website while we were away. Thanks for all the great ideas you have…..especially the ones that help make this site even better. You are awesome!

  2. Hi Bruce, thanks for the kind words amigo. “Ultimate Movie Ranker” still makes me giggle. 🙂

I must have spent more time on your website in 2016 than on my home theater forum, and I’ve been a member there for 16 years.

We met at Hubpages nearly 6 years ago and struck up a friendship over our mutual love of movies, not always agreeing with each other and that’s perfectly natural.

Congrats on another successful year for the UMR. Your website’s becoming more and more popular each year and in so many countries too. There are tons of facts and stats on this site you won’t find anywhere else on the net and that’s an achievement you and Debbie should be proud of.

Great to see your John Wayne and Elvis pages were so popular in 2016. And your Tarzan and Film Noir pages have done amazingly well too.

Here’s to 2017 being an even better year for the UMR.

    Cheers!
    Steve.

    1. Hey Steve… I find it hard to believe that it was January 2011 when I wrote my first movie page (Bruce Willis of course)….and then pretty soon after that we started our internet friendship….5 full years….it only seems like a few months….time flies when you are having fun.

Thanks for the kind words on the website….and thanks again for helping us put the brakes on the Ranker name. Wayne and Elvis have been very popular this year….as well as Black Hawk Down…..which is one reason I am working on a King Kong only page…maybe lightning will strike twice.

I think our two websites go together nicely….here is hoping we both have outstanding 2017s.

  3. Hello Bruce,

So, according your stats, more than 10 000 people will read my name in the hall of fame. I became famous :-).
More sériously, thank you for all Bruce. For your website, your kindness and our exchanges this year. And thank you to WoC for the same reasons.
Happy new year 2017. Hope it will very good for you and your family.

    1. Hey Laurent…yep….here at UMR.com you are very famous…..just do not let it go to your head….lol. Thanks for the nice words and the visit…hope your holiday is a good one too.

  4. This is my first ever Hall of Fame induction for me. I want to thank my family, friends and agent for helping me get this honor. 🙂

I enjoy your website glad to know my comments are appreciated so much. Thanks for mentioning me and congrats on a successful year.

Seems if you mentioned Guy Hamilton you should mention Michael Cimino. Cimino won an Oscar for The Deer Hunter. He passed away in 2016.

    1. Hey Stein…congrats on your HOF honor. Now you can write HOF behind your signature…lol. Thanks for all the support and comments over the last 12 months…as well as your comments in 2015.

Per your suggestion…I have included Michael Cimino on the list of those that have passed away. Good catch. 🙂

  5. I counted 4 typos (including the 2 intentional ones)!! Cool stats on your year, especially considering you do not currently have access to your whole database.

    1. Hey Katie…thanks for checking out our 2016 review. I have appreciated all of your behind the scenes work you have done this year and all the other years. Thanks again…you are awesome!
