  1. I always felt that Eleanor Parker could have been one of the Greats of Hollywood, yet as it was, she was a beautiful, highly competent actress with a string of A List movies that curiously have (almost) all been forgotten nowadays. Yet, I have managed to see 24 of her movies, the earliest ones being The Woman In White and The Man With The Golden Arm, frequently shown on german telly in my youth. Strangely, Germany seemed to be the one country that resisted the overwhelming success of The Sound Of Music, it is only three years ago that I watched it for the first time (bought it in the sales bin for under 2 Euros). Maybe the fact that the german/austrian filmization “Die Trapp Familie” was such a rousing success here kept Sound off the telly all my Life.
My favorite performances of Eleanor Parker are the shrewd wife in Golden Arm, another awful spouse in An American Dream, 2 of her 3 “Incarnations” of Lizzie, her performance as polio victim/opera singer Marjorie Lawrence in Interrupted Melody, her claim to movie immortality in Caged and her co starring part with Bob Mitchum in Home from the Hill. 2 films I’ve seen that didn’t make the list are Escape Me Never (Lupino/Flynn) and Return to Peyton Place.
    Good addition to the site!
