2016 Movies

The big Oscar winners this year were La La Land, Moonlight and Manchester By The Sea

Want to know the best 2016 Movies?  How about the worst 2016 Movies?  Curious about 2016 Movies did at the box office or which 2016 Movies picked up the most Oscar® nominations and Oscar® wins? Need to know which 2016 Movies movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.  We have been doing a yearly page since 2011….the previous winners were 2011’s The Help, 2012’s Argo, 2013’s Gravity, 2014’s American Sniper, 2015’s The Martians and 2016’s…to be determined.

So what will you find on this page? …You get lots of stats on 2016 Movies.  In the following table you can sort the movies any way you want.  Want to know the current Top Domestic Box Office Hit of 2016?  Just hit the sort button on that column and you will see Finding Dory in first place.   Want to know which movies got the best and worst reviews of the year?  Just hit the sort button on that column and you will see Moonlight in first place and Meet The Blacks in last place. You can also sort by Ultimate Movie Ranking scores…which combines box office, reviews and award.   Sorting that column shows Zootopia at the top and Meet The Blacks at the bottom of the rankings.

Any movie that has earned over $5 million dollars in domestic box office gross is included in the rankings.  There are a few that earned less than $5 million that made the rankings…but they have a popular star attached to them….like Tom Hanks in A Hologram For A King.    We will be updating this page regularly until probably next March….as we determine the 2016 Movie Of The Year.  Just so you know.  A movie maxes out earning points in the box office category…when it reaches the $200 million domestic mark.

Zootopia currently has the number one spot....but not thinking it is going to get much Award love at the end of the year
Zootopia has a spot in the Top 5…can it hold that spot over the next few months?

2016 Movies Can Be Ranked 6 Ways In This Table

The really cool thing about this table is that it is “user-sortable”. Rank the movies anyway you want.

    • Sort 2016 Movies by the star or stars of the 2016 Movies listed in table
    • Sort 2016 Movies by domestic box office grosses
    • Sort 2016 Movies by wordwide box office grosses
    • Sort by how 2016 Movies were received by critics and audiences.  60% rating or higher should indicate a good movie.
    • Sort by how many Oscar® nominations and how many Oscar® wins each 2016 Movies received….this column will remain 00 / 00 until next February.
    • Sort 2016 Movies by Ultimate Movie Ranking (UMR) Score.  UMR puts box office, reviews and awards into a mathematical equation and gives each movie a score.

Our personal favorite movie of 2016 (so far at least) is Deadpool and sits in 4th place after 5 months.

  1. Isn’t this a bit early Bruce? We still have 7 months of 2016 to go.

I enjoyed Zootopia, but rated higher than Civil War? Btw it was renamed Zootropolis in Europe, no idea why, Zootopia was a better title.

I’ve seen 14 of the 58 films you’ve so far listed. Films I’ve enjoyed include – Deadpool, Batman vs Superman, Captain America Civil War and X-Men Apocalypse – do you see a pattern forming here? 😉

I was not that impressed with 10 Cloverfield Lane and The 5th Wave was a damp squib.

Gods of Egypt was colorful but suffered from CG overkill, I wonder if Warcraft will fare better?

Dirty Grandpa was simply awful, ditto Grimsby. The Finest Hours did not engage me and I was glad when it was over. Hail Caesar was not one of the Coens better movies.

Kung Fu Panda 3 and Zootropolopolis sorry, Zootopia, were fun and I enjoyed Pride & Prejudice & Zombies, looking forward to Sense & Sensibility & Mummys. (snigger)

Looks like you’re going to have to update this page regularilily Bruce old chum. Voted Up.

    1. Hey Steve.
      1. My first really successful page was my 2011 Movie Page…I started that one in February 2011…and it turned out to be a Top 5 all-time page at HubPages (you remember Hub Pages…lol). So compared to that I am actually late…..but I think I started our 2015 Movie Page at the end of the summer…so compared to that I am indeed early.
      2. Unless the views stay strong….I am thinking this will be a monthly updated page….there are probably 100 more movies coming for this page. Including all the award ones.
      3. The Top 4 movies here almost all have the same stats….great reviews…and each over $300 million in North America…..so I think it is safe to say they are all really good movies.
      4. That does seem strange that the renamed Zootopia in Europe.
      5. Tally count….Steve 14…me 7.
      6. Your comic book movies have 4 of the top 11 spots….I wonder if The Suicide Squad will be joining these blockbustermovies.
      7. Thanks for the mini-reviews on 10 C Lane, KFP3, Finest Hours, Grimsby, Hail Caesar, Gods of Egypt and The 5th Wave.
      8. I agree with you 100% on Dirty Grandpa….a comedy that forgot to add in the funny parts.
      9. As always….thanks for stopping by.

  2. Not many films interest me until movies up for award season start to be released. I still plan on seeing the new Jungle Book movie as I try to see all Rudyard Kipling films. Otherwise….

Not likely going to try to see released films in the near future – maybe in the fall?

    1. Hey Flora…..thanks for checking out these “very very new movies”. Previously I have updated this page every week…depending on traffic…I will probably only be updating this one about once a month….previously I updated two or three times a week….not thinking I have the time to do that this year. I highly recommend The Jungle Book….it was awesome. Thanks for the comment.

  3. I would say the Top 7 are all popcorn movies, it takes it all the way to 8th to reach a serious movie. So far my favorite is Eye in the Sky. Hoping that gets some Oscar nominations. Nice job.

    1. Hey Red t. I agree the Top 7 are without a doubt “popcorn movies”. As the year progresses this will move down the list….particulary Batman vs Superman….as those bad reviews might make it hard for that one to stay in the Top 30. I have not seen Eye In The Sky….but I want to. It would be cool if they gave Rickman a Best Supporting Oscar nom…..one of the things I am hoping for.

  4. Stuff like this is why I like Twitter. Very interesting read. You are right this is a very bad Memorial Day weekend for Johnny Depp and yes those Disney people are scrambling since they have so much money tied up with Pirates 5. Those trailers are probably being reedit end.

    1. Hey Unusual Movie Reviews….glad you enjoyed my tweets and this page. Yep….I can imagine Johnny Depp being on his island…and trying to figure out what went wrong this weekend. If the publicity on his divorce keeps getting unlucky….I can easily see Disney cutting a Pirates 5 trailer were Captain Jack is hardly mentioned. Thanks for checking out our latest page.

    1. Hey Anonymous….it took a minute for me to realize what you meant….but now I see that Mr. Epps has the bottom two movies. So in the end…I agree 100%…his movie career is stumbling a little in 2016…thanks for checking out my 2016 page.
