Zombie Movies Can Be Ranked 6 Ways In This Table

The really cool thing about this table is that it is “user-sortable”. Rank the movies anyway you want.

  • Sort Zombie movies by co-stars of movies.
  • Sort Zombie movies by adjusted domestic box office grosses using current movie ticket cost (in millions)
  • Sort Zombie movies by yearly domestic box office rank
  • Sort Zombie movies how they were received by critics and audiences.  60% rating or higher should indicate a good movie.
  • Sort by how many Oscar® nominations each Zombie movie received and how many Oscar® wins each Zombie movie won.
  • Sort Zombie movies by Ultimate Movie Rankings (UMR) Score.  UMR Score puts box office, reviews and awards into a mathematical equation and gives each movie a score.
  • Use the search and sort button to make this page very interactive.

Hey Steve…I am convinced you will enjoy Train To Busan…..I loaned the movie to a friend at work….and he loaned it to a friend….I might not ever see the movie again……but getting people to notice this movie….is now a goal of mine. There is a sequel in the works…..and a graphic novel that provides “the reason for the zombie outbreak”. So it is time for you to get on the train….lol.

I again am embarrassed . I saw 2. in my defense, I would like to decrease that number. as a medical professional , the zombie like characters in planet terror were technically infected and alive not undead. just saying. thank God for brad pitt and bruce willis or I would have whiffed again. oh, wait , wait……….
    BRUCE WILLIS
    & brad pitt
see , The Bob has taught this old dog something.
count me for one and we will let Steve judge if I have to say I saw 2.

      HI BOB COX

Perceptive billing. If you have seen any RECENT Stallone/Arnie/Harrison Ford movies you should add those to your zombie tally!

Hey Bob….you are seeing the light…funny comment about seeing recent movies starring action heroes of yesteryear. Good stuff.

The Bob, love it. just because they look dead does that make them undead. tommy lee jones, who I love as an actor and was the previous resident in a home my mother rented, was the worst in Jason bourne. there was no evident facial expression except wrinkle.

Hey bob cox….thanks for checking out our Zombie movie page….sadly I got this page published about 3 weeks to late….and missed the entire Halloween rush…..bad timing on my part. Good call out to Bruce Willis….stuff like that….will get you far on this website…lol. Your tally of 2…..is behind Steve and my tallies…by more than a little bit. I highly highly recommend watching Train to Busan….it is awesome! My review of that movie.

“Wow….LOVED THIS MOVIE. Not a huge horror movie fan at all….but this was an amazing movie. Fast paced, awesome special effects, great characters, great performances and wonderful story. Not only does this movie move to the top of my all-time favorite zombie movies (right there with Dawn of the Dead) but will be on my list for my Top 10 movies that I watched in 2018.”

Thanks as always for the feedback.

As Steve knows I am not a big fan of horror/sci-fi movies that contain just endless sequences of blood-letting and “slasher” activities. I prefer more subtle fare which in my view is provided by for example Hitch’s Psycho and the 1956 Invasion of the Bodysnatchers. However I think the most boring kind of presentations at all in the genre(s) are the zombie stories which I feel have been grossly over-killed on both the big and small screens to saturation point..

FRASIER SEASON 10 EPISODE 5 OCT 2002”TALES FROM THE CRYPT”

Bulldog Briscoe has been playing merciless tricks on Frasier who decides to get his own back on the Bulldog so he recruits his own father Martin and others to go down into a basement where Bulldog works and dress up as zombies, ready to pounce on Bulldog when the latter reports for work.

Frasier organises a series of dress rehearsals which are prolonged because Frasier isn’t satisfied with the acting complaining among other things “You look dead enough but not undead!” Everyone becomes exasperated when Frasier orders yet another rerun.

    MARTIN
“Not again! We’ve been through this practice umpteen times.”
Whereupon Martin finally snaps and shouts-
“And in case you haven’t heard THERE’S NO SUCH THING AS ZOMBIES!!!

Hey Bob. Thanks for the feedback on our zombie movie page. I agree with you about a lot of the zombie stuff out there…..for every good zombie movie there are 3 to4 bad to horrible zombie movies out there. One of the reasons, I do not like the Romero movies…..is his desire to have so many “just gore” scenes. The zombie movies I have enjoyed have concentrated on the story versus focusing on the ways zombies actually eat their victims…lol. Funny line about Zombies from Frasier….I can easily picture the late John Mahoney saying that line. Good feedback as always.

A lovely topic which is right up my alley (or should that be cemetery?).

Let’s see I’ve seen… 25 of the 52 films on the chart, not bad I suppose, some of them I’d never heard of.

Lots of favorites including – George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead and Land of the Dead, the Resident Evil series, Return of the Living Dead, Shaun of the Dead, Zombieland, 28 Days Later, Re-Animator, Warm Bodies and World War Z.

Notable zombie movies missing from the list are – White Zombie (1932 Lugosi), I Walked With a Zombie (1943 Val Lewton), Plague of the Zombies (1966 Hammer), The Serpent and the Rainbow (1988 Bill Pullman), Zombie Flesh Eaters (1979 Lucio Fulci) and REC (2007 Spanish).

Also missing is the 1990 remake of Night of the Living Dead, directed by George Romero’s favorite make up artist Tom Savini. (Savini is also an actor, he played the gang leader in Dawn of the Dead (1978) and a vampire in From Dusk Till Dawn (1996))

Bob Hope comedy The Ghost Breakers featured a creepy zombie at the climax of the film and Romero’s Creepshow anthology featured a zombie story starring Leslie Nielsen and Ted Danson.

My favorite zombie film? Romero’s Dawn of the Dead (1978).

You just missed Halloween with this one Bruce but you could always resurrect it on the next one. Good stuff. Vote Up!

      Hey Steve
      1. Sorry it took so long to respond to this comment.
      2. I wanted to do so much more with this page….just ran out of time initially and then ran out of desire later….lol.
      3. I recently saw and really enjoyed Train To Busan….which was not only a great zombie movie….but was one of the best movies I have seen in 2016…..it was so good it go me fired up to do this zombie page. If you have not seen it…..I highly highly recommend tracking that movie down and watching it.
      4. As for the many missing movies…..decided to only list movies made after Romero’s original classic (1969)….so that excluded the classics you mentioned….The Serpent and the Egg did not make it because…those were not flesh eating zombies….just poor humans that were led to believe they were zombies. As for the REC movies and the Fulci trilogy….I wanted to add those movies….but it does not look like they played in North American theaters….so with no box office….they were also excluded. That leaves the Creepshow and Night of the Living Dead…Ted Danson’s zombie….just did not fit in with this group of movies. Which leaves 1990’s Return of the Living Dead…..glad to say that one is now on the page. I think I got confused about the 3D version, the classic version and Savini’s version.
      5. So I assume you saw the Savini version…which would put your tally up to 26…I have seen….counting…I have 33 of these movies.
      6. I had a Cogerson Top Ten that I created…but #2 derailed putting it on the page…..but that Top 10 was…..second comment.

        Hey Steve….part two…feel like I am writing an essay…lol.

10th 28 Days Later….the first half is amazing…the second half is a letdown
9th Zombieland….the Bill Murray cameo alone, makes that one worth while
8th Planet Terror….the Bruce Willis bias gets it into the Top 10
7th Warm Bodies….interesting take on the subject
6th Night of the Living Dead….gotta give the granddaddy of those movies some love
5th Return of the Living Dead…saw this one in a packed theater at a midnight showing….a good time was had by all
4th Resident Evil movies – put all the movies together…and you fine a good movie
3rd Shaun of the Dead – love this movie….horror and comedy…just the way I like it
2nd Train to Busan – not only a great zombie movie….but a great movie period
1st Dawn of the Dead – we agree…so it has to be #1

I agree…I will have to share this one at Halloween……Zombies and Horror for Halloween…..John Candy for Thanksgiving…..and the Scrooge for Christmas.

        Good feedback.

Good posts Bruce, I will check out Train to Busan, never heard of it before.

We seem to have the same ‘taste’ in zombie films. 🙂

steve, great share. you are a wealth of knowledge. I just saw I walked with a zombie. even The Bob might approve of that one, no slashing. it made me think, is live and let die (the bond movie with moore) a voodoo movie or could it sneak into zombie? even though they were just drugged? thanks for your list of favorites , it grew my to watch list a lot. I love your slide shows, strong work on those ratings and posters/stills. I rarely get to watch them in a timely fashion due to computer restrictions at work, high security locations, no you tube.LOL
