Andrew “Andy” Hardy was played by Mickey Rooney in a 16 movie series from 1937 to 1958. Hardy and the rest of the Hardy family were based on characters in the play Skidding by Aurania Rouverol. Early films in the series focused on the entire Hardy family, but later films in the series focused on the character of Andy Hardy.
The sixteen Andy Hardy movies grossed almost $1.90 billion in adjusted worldwide box office grosses. The success of the Andy Hardy movies helped make Mickey Rooney a Top Five box office star from 1938 to 1942. Rooney was the Top Star in 1939, 1940 and 1941. Other regulars in the series were Lewis Stone as Judge Hardy, Fay Holden as Mrs. Hardy, Cecilia Parker as Marian Hardy, Judy Garland as Betsy Booth (3 movies), and Ann Rutherford as Polly Benedict.

I’ve seen most of the Andy Hardy series. They were often used to introduce up and coming new actresses as Andy’s love interest.
The only ones I’m missing are #8 and #15. Although to be sure the ones I re-watch are the ones where I’m a fan of his leading lady.
I will look at Mickey Rooney’s overall page when I have more time.

I have to say I have seen 0 of these movies. My MGM ledger had all the movies….so when I got a request to do these movies…I figured why not…especially since it was pretty easy to do. I went on vacation last week and did nothing on this website….so I felt I should generate some pages this week….4 pages in 2 days…I am impressed….as I pat myself on the back…lol.
