Ann Sheridan Movies Can Be Ranked 6 Ways In This Table

The really cool thing about this table is that it is “user-sortable”. Rank the movies anyway you want.

  • Sort Ann Sheridan movies by co-stars of her movies
  • Sort Ann Sheridan movies by adjusted domestic box office grosses using current movie ticket cost (in millions)
  • Sort Ann Sheridan movies by adjusted worldwide box office grosses using current movie ticket cost (in millions)

Possibly Interesting Facts About Ann Sheridan

1. Clara Lou “Ann” Sheridan was born in Denton, Texas in 1915

2.  In 1934, Ann Sheridan won a beauty contest.  That notoriety from that win got her into the movies. From 1934 to 1936 she appeared 23 movies for Paramount and Universal…..most were uncredited or bit roles.

3. While at Paramount Ann Sheridan was used as a body double (hands, legs, shoulders).

4. Stardom came her way when Warner Brothers decided to promote her as the “Oomph” girl.  This was voted by a committee of 25 men as the female actor with the most “oomph” in America.

5. Ann Sheridan later became the inspiration for the brand of woman’s house-slippers called “Oomphies”

6. Ann Sheridan was married three times in her life but did not have any children.

7. Ann Sheridan got her part in one of her most successful movies, 1942’s Kings Row, after Ginger Rogers had turned down the part.

8. After making 1937’s San Quentin, in which they played brother and sister, Ann Sheridan and Humphrey Bogart became friends and began referring to each other as “Sister Annie” and “Brother Bogie”.

9. In 1938 Ann Sheridan starred in Angels With Dirty Faces and in 1939 she starred in Angels Wash Their Faces.  Despite the closeness of titles these two movies have nothing to do with each other than Sheridan starred in both.  This caused mass confusion here in Cogersonville.

    1. Hey Dan….I think it is cool she was an active actress till the end….I imagine it was shocking news back then when she passed. Gotta admit….I had never heard of Pistols and Petticoats before doing this page. Good lists as always. Only 3 left on the 2016 page. Hopefully Quinn can stay on the list for at least a few more years. Bess Flowers is listed many times…..her name always seems to pop out on your lists. 20 is on the below average side…especially for a career that lasted so long and had so many movies. I had noticed she and Bogart had appeared in many movies over the years. As always….I appreciate you taking the time to share this information.

  3. Thank you for doing this ann sheridan page…..she was so versatile and so pretty….and very sultry but in a down-to-earth way…..she is marvelous in so many films…..she pops off the screen stealing scene after scene….Kings Row, Nora Prentiss, The Unfaithful, I Was a Male.War Bride, Take Me to Town, and even the maligned One More Tomorrow she is in incredible in….she even walks off with the mediocre The Opposite Sex though it is obvious her role was edited down and the film loses all OOMPH when she is not in the scene..nothing against June Allyson or Joan Collins or Joan Blondell (whose type Sheridan more or less replaced at Warner Brothers from 1937 onwards) & dolores gray who were all effervescent & magical in other better scripted films…..anyway I look forward to a Dennis Morgan page Sheridan’s male counterpart in Warner Brothers Golden age hierarchy of stars….

    1. Hey Elliott….glad you found your requested movie page. Thanks for the breakdown on your favorite Sheridan movies. I enjoyed her in Kings Row and I Was A Male War Bride. It is a shame she and Cary Grant (one of my favorites) only made one movie. The attached trailed for One More Tomorrow looks interesting. Interesting about the Warner Brothers girls…and how they replaced each other over the years. I have your Dennis Morgan request rattling around in my head…..so it will get done at some point. Thanks for the kind words and the visit.

  4. One of the new additions to our pages will be to add in “movie” pages to the UMR subject’s Top 10…..in this case….we could not find a trailer for Good Sam….so we went with Ann Sheridan’s 11th ranked movie One More Tomorrow. Check out the Dodge City video…it is INSANE!

  5. Ann Sheridan made acting look easy. She was warm, capable, and unpretentious, a down-to-earth heroine with a deep voice and a healthy, unthreatening sexuality.
