Cogerson Reviews Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)

My wife and I were among the 22 and half million people in North America that went and saw Avengers: Age of Ultron during it’s opening weekend. Going into the movie I have to say my expectations were a little lower after seeing some less than positive reviews and I never saw a trailer that got me very excited about seeing this sequel.

A quick summary: The Avengers battle a man made A.I. villain named Ultron and his two hench people. Quicksilver (he’s fast) and Scarlet Witch (she’s scary). At stake? Only the end of the human race.

Ok now that the summary is out of the way. Let’s talk about the movie. I saw this movie Saturday night…and I am writing this on Sunday night…..so I have had time to think about by opinion on this movie. In my opinion this is a better movie than part 1. Loki’s master plan in the first one never made sense to me…..I can easily understand Ultron’s master plan. Seeing this same group of actors playing the same roles (DC you should have payed Bale to return to your Justice movies) almost makes you feel like you are hanging out with friends. In Age of Ultron we actually get the chance to know these characters even better. And I have to say I liked that a lot in this movie.

The cast? Robert Downey, Jr easily has the best part in the movie. Chris Evans gets to say the most important lines. Jeremy Renner gets a meatier part this time around. Scarlett Johansson still brings the sexy to the party. Mark Ruffalo might be the weak link this time around. Chris Hemsworth has a few funny lines. The most impressive newcomer is James Spader as the voice of Ultron. They say a movie is only as good as its villain….well they have an outstanding villain in this movie.

My favorite moment? There is an epic battle between Iron Man and the Hulk. Lots of times in fights between two computer graphic characters I get bored quickly (Spidey vs Lizard Man almost put me to sleep)…not this time. Their fight is one of the highlights of the movie.

Final thought: This movie has action, drama, great special effects, a good story, great cast and a great villain. There is not much more you can ask of a movie. Highly recommend seeing this one.
