Drivel Part: (That is what my wife calls this part of the page).  Back in February 2011 as The King’s Speech was dueling The Social Network for the big awards we got a request (by Tyler) to rank the Big 6 Oscar® categories. Well, we quickly knocked out the Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Actress categories. Pages on the Best Director, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress soon arrived….then we stopped…but today, Thanksgiving 2020 we have added a seventh Oscar winning page….Best Editor.

Since 1934, there have been over 85 Best Editor Oscar Winners. This page will rank all Best Editor Oscar Winning movies from Best to Worst in five different sortable columns of information.  If you use the sort and search buttons the massive table becomes very interactive.

Thelma Schoonmaker is tied for the most Best Editor Oscar nominations (8) and Best Editor Oscar wins (3). She frequently works with Martin Scorsese.

The really cool thing about ther table is that it is “user-sortable”. Rank the movies anyway you want.

  • Sort Best Editor Oscar Winning Movies by actual domestic box office grosses (in millions)
  • Sort Best Editor Oscar Winning Movies by adjusted domestic box office grosses using current movie ticket cost (in millions)

  • Sort Best Editor Oscar Winning Movies by Ultimate Movie Ranking (UMR) Score.  UMR puts box office, reviews and awards into a mathematical equation and gives each movie a score.  The ceiling to earn points for box office is $200 million…once a movie passes that mark it stops earning points in that category.

  1. Hmm almost missed this page, another interesting subject. A good editor can make a so-so film into something special.

I count 11 films here I haven’t seen, which means I’ve watched 75 of the 86 films on the chart. Too many favorites to list but I will mention a few with excellent editing – Lawrence of Arabia, Jaws, Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Ben-Hur (the chariot race), The French Connection (car & train chase), The Matrix, Bullitt (car chase), JFK, Saving Private Ryan and Black Hawk Down.

    Good stuff Bruce. Vote Up!

  2. I have seen 48 of these movies including 7 of the top 10 and 14 of the top 20.

Because of the number of movies I will only refer to the top 20 films that are my favourites:

    Lawrence of Arabia
    Gone With the Wind
The Best Years of Our Lives
    The Apartment
The Bridge on the River Kwai
    Unforgiven
    The Sound of Music
    West Side Story
    Chicago
