  1. I did not like Avatar 2, so in my mind you are not missing much. Me and hubby also liked Marry Me. I have not seen Thirteen Lives, but I am now thinking I should do that. Happy New Year.

    1. Hey Helakosk…good to hear from you. I have heard some mixed reactions on Avatar 2. Glad to see that you liked Marry Me too. That felt like a movie that did not seem worthy of a Top 10 inclusion….but we liked it too. That final spot came down to either Redeeming Love or Marry
Me. The edge went to re-watchability….as I can see watching Marry Me in the near future. As for 13 Lives…..I was so glad to see Ron Howard make another great movie. Good feedback.

  2. My films seen for the first time dropped off 17.1 % in 2022. I feel it will plunge more than 25% this year.

These are my best and worst films of 2022. I gave 3 1/2 stars and above to only 11 films, and 4 stars to just the top 2.

All titles are in Upper Case because I’m lazy. I got a new computer for Christmas which I haven’t opened and can’t be bothered with at the moment. I’m old fashioned: I would rather load the programming via disk than off the internet.

    My 10 best of 2022 with # 11 listed.

    1 TOP GUN: MAVERICK
    2 SPIRITED
    3 BLACK PHONE
    4 AMSTERDAM
    5 GLASS ONION
6 JERRY AND MARGE GO LARGE
7 DOWNTON ABBEY: A NEW ERA
8 MRS. HARRIS GOES TO PARIS (2 sappy U.K. films in a row)
9 5-25-77 (a mess, crowd funded film that took like 14 years to make. Film is similar to The Fabelmans, some great editing, a little too long, but it’s lots of fun. Film title is date Star Wars opened).
    10 BATMAN, THE
11 STORIED LIFE OF A.J. FILKY

And now the 5 epics that got 1/2 a star or less.

    1 SMILE
2 PLEASURE (totally degrading to the actress who stars, both the part she plays and the reason why she made this trash. Available on Showtime.)
3 EVERYTHING, EVERYWHERE, ALL AT ONCE ( I told you I disliked this; I am obviously in the minority).
4 MEN (Has similar ending as 1980’s Altered States, my best film of that year. This was not 1980).
5 DEAD ZONE ( How can a Michael Jai White film be a total loss. Watch and you will learn).

DISHONORABLE MENTION (All the 1 star totally generic epics, most with 1word titles, which makes it seem films with 1 word titles are automatically bad).

    9 BULLETS
    ALTER EGO
    AMERICAN SIEGE
    ANGRY NEIGHBORS
    ARCTIC VOID
    AVIARY, THE
    BARBARIAN
    BLOWBACK
    CHARIOT
    CHILI LAUGH STORY
    CODE NAME: BANSHEE
    CONTRACTOR, THE
    CORRECTIVE MEASURES
    DC LEAGUE OF SUPER-PETS
    DEAD ZONE
    DIG
    ENFORCER, THE
    FORTRESS: SNIPER’S HIGH
    GOLD
    GONE IN THE NIGHT
    HALLOWEEN ENDS
    INCARNATION
    INFERNAL MACHINE
    JURASSIC ISLAND (a cheap knock-off)
    KUNG FU GHOST
    LAST SURVIVORS
    LOCKDOWN
    MARGAUX
    MARMADUKE
    MODERATOR, THE
    MONSTROUS
    MY SWEET MONSTER
    PURSUIT
    STUDENT BODY
THOR: GOD OF THUNDER (an Asylum mock-buster)
    UMMA
    VENDETTA
    WARHUNT
    WIFELIKE
    WRONG PLACE

    1. Hey Dan, thanks for sharing your lists on 2022 movies. Is your total of movies dropping because of losing some of those streaming services? Well, my total of 2023 is 0…so I am off to a slow start….lol. I have seen 5 of Top 11. Two of them are not in the 2022 table…I will have to add The Storied Life of A.J. Finkey and 5-25-77 to our database. I might watch Amsterdam….as I heard it was on Disney Plus….which we got for the holidays. We have two matches on our Top 2..Spirited and Black Phone.

Looking at your Top 5 Worst movies…..we have drastic views on Smile….but that is cool….though Kevin Bacon might not like you bashing his daughter’s break through role….lol. I have not even heard of this Dead Zone. There are so many movies these days….I am having a huge problem keeping up with all the movies. Case in point, there are about 15 of your Worst movies not in our database. Good stuff as always. Happy New Year.

  3. I accidentally excluded these paragraphs from my 1st 3 posts on this subject and without them parts of the texts mightn’t make much sense.

“Anyway I have a bit of an excuse for not going to the movies or commenting on this site so-much in the latter part of last year as I wasn’t well for some months though not over-seriously so.

Unlike say The Work Horse and Steve Lensman who impose their woes on others to curry sympathy I didn’t broadcast my temporary incapacity and of course those two guys have been going AWOL even when they have been in fine physical condition. A couple of “mommy’s boys” maybe?

I did though all the while keep my eye closely on the site from my sick bed and indeed probably are more familiar with its latest developments than some others are – take the Work Horse himself for instance!”

    1. Hey Bob….glad your medical issues were not too “overserious”. As for me and Steve….Steve has gone on a walkabout…..as for me….I did manage to create new content about every other day….so I can say that I have not been too absent on UMR. I hope you are getting near the end of your sick bed days…and in a good way. Happy New Year.

      1. HI BRUCE

Thanks for your multiple replies to my own posts on this subject. As always I have taken note of your thoughts.

I am well clear of my bout of sickness which was a passing phase; but thanks again for your concern anyway.

I hopeTeam Cogerson are all enjoying their New Year celebrations. Some galoots kept me awakein the wee small hours with letting off loud fireworks. I couldn’t help thinking that’s what the old West used to be like when the James Boys or the Daltons rode into town shooting-off their guns and heading for the saloons.

I remember one movie where a bunch of wild cattlement on the loose rode into town with their guns blazing into the air to “get liquored-up, round-up some women and take the town apart” and when they got half way up the street McCrea as Wyatt Earp was standing there so the “hellraisers” quickly did an about-turn and galloped back out again!

Ah the old Universal technicolor westerns: those were the days!

        1. Yep it was a good New Years Eve….fireworks in my neighborhood freaked out the cats. Good story on Joel McCrea….I saw one of his westerns on You Tube the other day…I will have to watch it as I have not seen any movies from him in awhile. Good feedback.

  4. My medical incapacity mightn’t have made much difference anyway to the number of big screen movies that I saw in 2022. Most of the new films showing at our local cinemas were not for me being animated features, which hold no appeal for me, or seemingly mindless action films.

I actually lost interest in the big screen action films when Bronson sadly died and Arnie and Willis were past their former glory. I know Hollywood keep scraping the barrel by resurrecting Stallone in Rocky rip-offs but I NEVER had any more interest in HIM than it appears Tennessee Williams had-

especially in my case after Sly chickened-out of playing Stanley in a cinematic remake of Streetcar, which led me to conclude Sylvester was somewhat of a mountebank as an actor.

In the TV sitcom Frasier the latter’s father Martin is a great Jean Claude Van Damme fan whereas Frasier and his brother Niles being snobs look down on Jean Claude and have never seen any of his movies.

However as a special treat for Martin’s birthday the pair do take him to a Van Damme movie and when they get home this conversation ensues:

MARTIN (BOASTFULLY – and clearly expectingrave reviews): “Well what did you two boys learn from your first Van Damme outing?”

FRASIER: “Oh, just that if a man can kick 20 feet into the air even a hail of bullets from a dozen machine guns and a fleet of tanks can’t stop him from breaking through the defences of a place like The Vatican and unmasking that old imposter who is masquerading as the Pope!”

Anyway this new page is “Voted UP”

    1. Hey Bob….I hope your “My medical incapacity” is not causing a ton of havoc on your day to day life. Speaking of Bruce…..he cranked out 12 crappy movies in 2022……for my list…I excluded the low budget movies…and concentrated on big budget flops. I did not know that Martin was a big JCVD fan…good trivia. Thanks for the votes up.
