Did you know the original Oscar was designed by Best Art Director named Cedric Gibbons. He also was nominated for 39 Oscars for Best Art Direction and he won a total of 11 Oscars. He received over 1500 on screen credits for 1917-56. Maybe a tribute page to this great Art Director.

When I looked him up on IMDb I saw he was 91. So I figured getting him an UMR page might need some urgency…lol. I "discovered" Erik from his supporting role in the 1974 disaster epic Airport 1975. After that it seemed he was on every television show I watched. Usually in one episode arcs. It was when he became on star on Chips that I finally connected a name to all those pre Chip roles. Lots of information on his movie career. I must admit I was not aware he had appeared in so many movies.

  3. I’m not sure where to put this post so here it goes.
    IMDB just announced they are dropping demographic detail on their ratings.
    This was invaluable to me in assessing whether a movie was liked by women (who on average are say only about 10-15% of the voting population) and not men as well as determine whether an older movie was liked by the generation closest to when the movie was produced or whether a movie was liked by children aka is it a good “oldie” or a good “children’s movie”.
    Please if you can take a moment join the IMDB forums and let IMDB that they have done us a huge disservice by removing this detail. Over the years I have run across a variety of movies that say might have around a 6 IMDB score but underneath the covers women may have voted this movie 6.5 reaching in my opinion a threshold of what I considered worthy of further consideration for addition to the collection. Hallmark romance tv movies for example would often receive 6.5 ratings from women and men not so much. On the opposite side, action movies might be more highly rated by men and by women perhaps not so much but due to the tipped balance of voters in favor of men by far over women this impact is simply not felt as much. By not offering this detailed transparency IMDB has compromised my ability to evaluate whether the film was well received by roughly half of our viewers and in the case of losing the age distribution I can’t tell whether its a well received oldie or kids movie.

    Yes of course some movies IMDB ratings are high as as a result of all ages and genders voting them highly but I can’t know that unless IMDB shows me the transparency of the details of the votes. I also can’t see if there was voter fraud. MUCH easier to see given the details of the voting.

A combination of factors forced the decision, but mostly due to declining access to the demographic data itself — fewer customers were willing to provide their own demographic data directly to IMDb, and similarly access to the same via third-party account linkage was becoming more difficult as various online privacy laws around the world (understandably) require increasing levels of consent.

      This led to a declining percentage of votes being included in the demographic breakdowns and the difficult decision to retire those breakdowns, sorry.

      The breakdown by country for all titles and by episode for TV-series / podcasts are intended to offset some of this inconvenience. We welcome ideas on other views of the ratings data which might be helpful here. “

  4. As always, thanks for all of this research. You are the man. Sadly our database is broken. So all new information is on pause….it (the database) had been limping along….but now it has completely stopped working. WoC (the brains of UMR) has been concerned for awhile that the database/website was getting too big. Efforting to get it fixed as quickly as possible.
