Dwayne Johnson Movies

Want to know the best Dwayne Johnson movies?  How about the worst Dwayne Johnson movies?  Curious about Dwayne Johnson box office grosses or which Dwayne Johnson movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Dwayne Johnson movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.

When my oldest boys were younger they went crazy over WWF wrestling.  Easily their favorite wrestlers were Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock.  If you would told me that in 15 years The Rock was going to be one of the most bankable movie stars in Hollywood, I would have told you that you were crazy.  Well that is exactly what has happened.  Dwayne Johnson (1972-) has been starring in hit movie after hit movie since 2002.  He is showing no signs of slowing up either….he is currently attached to an incredible 16 movies in different stages of production.

His IMDb page shows over 110 acting credits since 1996. This page will rank Dwayne Johnson movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information.  His cameos, shorts, straight to DVD movies and all of his wrestling appearances were not included in the rankings.

Dwayne Johnson Movies Ranked In Chronological Order With Ultimate Movie Rankings Score (1 to 5 UMR Tickets) *Best combo of box office, reviews and awards.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in 2007's Game Plan
Dwayne Johnson in 2007’s Game Plan

Possibly Interesting Facts About Dwayne Johnson

1. Dwayne Johnson was born in Hayward, California.  His father, Rocky Johnson, was also a professional wrestler as was his grandfather Peter Maivia….making Dwayne Johnson the first ever three generation professional wrestler.

2.  Dwayne Johnson played football at the University of Miami.   He was considered a NFL (National Football League) prospect before a back injury.  After playing one year in the CFL (Canadian Football League) he decided to concentrate on professional wrestling.

3.  More Dwayne Johnson football trivia:  (1) While at the University of Miami he helped them win a national championship.  (2) He was Hall of Famer Warren Saap’s backup at the University of Miami and (3) Was teammates with quarterback Doug Flutie during his one year in the CFL.

4. Dwayne Johnson became famous as a professional wrestler (The Rock) during his time at WWF (World Wrestling Federation) from 1996-2004.

5. As Dwayne Johnson’s popularity soured…..Hollywood came calling.  After a small part in 2001’s The Mummy Returns he was paid a record $5.50 million dollars for his first ever starring role…..2002’s The Scorpion King.

6. Since the box office success of The Scorpion King…Dwayne Johnson has appeared in almost 2 movies a year.  So far his movies have grossed almost $5 BILLION in adjusted worldwide box office.  That number will be “almost $6 BILLION” after Furious 7 (2015) ends it’s box office run.

7. Dwayne Johnson has been married one time.  He was married to Dany Garcia (1997-2001)…they have one daughter.

8.  Dwayne Johnson has expressed his desire to play a villain in a James Bond film.  He would once again be following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Peter Maivia.  Maivia appeared as a Bond villain in You Only Live Twice (1967).

9.  Of all the performers to get a Ultimate Movie Rankings page (200 plus pages)…..only Dwayne Johnson and Jennifer Aniston have made at least 20 movies and not had any of their movies receive a single Oscar® nomination in any category.   Channing Tatum used to be on this list….but his Foxcatcher movie last year got him off this list.

10.  Dwayne Johnson was Tim Burton’s 2nd choice to play Willy Wonka in 2005’s Charley and the Chocolate.  Imagine what that movie would have been like….if Johnny Depp had not taken the part…actually it would have probably been better.

I have not seen too many Dwayne Johnson movies and I can’t decide if he is a serious actor or a comedian. But Fast & Furious 5 and 6 and The Game Plan were good!

Hey Katie…..thanks for the visit. I would say he is an action star. He has made a couple of comedies….one went well (The Game Plan) while went poorly (The Tooth Fairy)….since The Tooth Fairy it has been one action movie after another. I appreciate the comment.

Excellent tribute to Dwayne Johnson!! Interesting how Fast 6 is his biggest hit, but I’m glad to hear it! He is a humble man and an awesome actor!! I was never into the whole wrestling thing so I’m thankful for his acting ability and I hope he keeps on shining! 🙂

Hey Sunshine with an L…..lol. Thanks for coming to my new website….seems like only yesterday I was at HubPages. I agree..by all accounts….he seems to be a well grounded superstar. Fast 6 might not be his number one hit for much longer….I think Furious 7 is going to take it down….and it only a few weeks. Good to hear from you again.

The Rock was a good addition to the Fast and Furious franchise, they found someone even bigger than Vin Diesel. I enjoyed all 6 of those movies even the Tokyo one, looking forward to Furious 7. The grosses for that series have been going up instead of down, amazing. If I had to pick a favorite, probably the first one and Fast Five.
I’ve seen 17 of the 23 films you’ve listed, I have yet to see the Rock’s Oscar-nominated role as the Tooth Fairy. Lots of facts here I didn’t know about Dwayne Johnson, it would be cool to see him in a future Bond movie. Good work Bruce, keep em coming.

Hey Steve…17 out of 23 movies….you must like The Rock a lot. Then again I do not think I am a huge fan but I have 21 out of 23 myself……only Furious 7 and Doom have escaped me. The Tooth Fairy is so bad it is amazing that it did not ruin his career. I think after the success of The Game Plan he was looking for another family comedy hit. I wonder if he will ever get the chance to play that Bond villain. Maybe he will be Christian Bale’s first Bond villain in 2021. As always I appreciate your input.

Thanks Hurricane Fan. I was working on this page before I went to bed….I hit publish before I went back and looked for mistakes. This morning I woke up and see your comment. That was a mistake… I had The Mummy Returns in the wrong spot…..it has been fixed. Sorry for the confusion….I have a bad habit of editing AFTER I submit. That is very cool about knowing him before he became famous. Thanks for stopping by.
