  1. Lovejoy gets some love and joy at the UMR.

I’ve seen 19 of the 31 films on the chart, favorites are – Battle of Britain (Steve’s favorite war film), John Wick 1-2-3, Pirates of the Caribbean 4 -On Blackbeard’s Beard, Shrek 3, Kung Fu Panda, Hercules, Jack the Giant Slayer, Golden Compass, Sorcerer’s Apprentice and Sexy Beast.

I saw Villain a couple of months ago, it’s not a good film but might be worth a look for Richard Burton as a ruthless gangster who also happens to be bisexual. For an even odder Dick Burton experience check out Hammersmith is Out.

All of Ian McShane’s most popular films were from the last 15 years, no surprises there.

    Nice work Bruce. Vote Up.

    1. Hey Steve
      1. Thanks for the visit, comment and tally count.
      2. Tally count: Cogerson 22, Steve 19 and Flora 4.
      3. Another person giving Lovejoy some love….I am feeling like an outsider…..I guess I should watch some of those shows.
      4. I have seen all of your favorites…but many are not ones I loved…I liked Hercules (McShane was very good in that one), John Wick 1 (good first chapter) and Sorcerer’s Apprentice (fun movie with a bad rep).
      5. Villain gets mentions from you and Bob…that like Lovejoy was really off my radar screens.
      6. I agree 100%….over the last 15 years…McShane has appeared in supporting roles in many big box office results.
      Thanks for the vote up.

    1. Like Ben Gazzarra….I am surprised McShane is so highly ranked by Oracle….granted his last 15 years have been very busy. Two big budget movies this year alone….the massive hit John Wick 3 and the massive bomb Hellboy. Looking at the first list….looks like John Wick is among his most frequent co-stars….with another Wick almuni, John Leguizamo, being another. Second list. Only 27 Oscar winning co-stars….I would have guessed higher…but there are some good ones among that 27. Good information as always. Thank you.

  3. Like Soren, I was a fan of Ian McShane as Lovejoy. Back in the day when A&E channel really was Arta and Entertainment, they aired a lot of mystery series and Lovejoy was one of them.

I have seen 4 Ian McShane movies.

    Favourite Ian McShane Movies:

    The Last of Sheila
    Battle of Britain
If It’s Tuesday, It Must Be Belgium

    Other Ian McShane Movie I Have Seen;

Ordeal By Innocence, perhaps the worst Agatha Christie movie ever made.

    1. Hey Flora. So you are a fan of Lovejoy too? Interesting….I must have heard about that show back in the day….it just never registered with me. Granted it’s last show aired all the way back in 1994…..over a quarter of a century ago. Thanks for the tally count….I have seen 22 of his movies…so I have you by a little bit. I have seen two of your three favorites. Glad to see The Last of Sheila….that is also my favorite McShane movie. Never been a huge fan of Battle of Britain….even with Caine being in it. Granted Sir Laurence Olivier is excellent in the movie. Seems I might have seen Ordeal by Innocence back in my VHS watching days….just do not have any memories of it….but based on your mini-review….that might be a good thing….lol. Good stuff as always.

  4. Hi Bruce, interesting as always.
..but Ian McShane will always be Lovejoy to me – if you haven’t seen an episode, do check it out if you can. He is very likeable..

    1. The first movie in which I ever saw Ian was 1971’s Villain, where he was Richard Burton’s bisexual lover. The last time I recall seeing him was as a wife-cheating lothario in 1990’s Rest in Peace W o C [ie Wife of Columbo!] a recent re-run episode of the TV series Columbo. However the performance that I most enjoyed Ian in was that of the treacherous Joel Iscariot in Jesus of Nazareth, a 1977 television mini-series starring Robert Powell as Jesus. [Don’t free Jesus: free Joel, the crowd demanded of Pilate].

Indeed, posts so far from other viewers indicate, probably correctly, that Ian might be most remembered as TV’s Lovejoy a part time detective and “irresistible rogue”. The series which ran for 73 episodes from 1986-1994 was praised by critics for its “style and pacing”; and another standout feature of it was that Lovejoy would frequently break the “fourth wall”, revealing his thoughts and motives by addressing the audience directly.

In fact in the 57 years overall that Ian has acted to date he has had a massively prolifically television career from 1962 until the present, appearing in the enormous 62 TV productions listed on Wikipedia.

According to Celebrity Net Worth Ian has a current net fortune of $10 million, and IMDB credits him with 4 acting awards and 25 noms. This page on one of entertainment’s long-standing solidly entertaining ‘work horses’ is hereby warmly greeted with a “Vote Up!”

      1. Hey Bob. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Ian McShane. Good stuff….and all of it were unknown to me. Lovejoy and it’s breaking of the 4th wall is interesting…it makes me even more curious to check out a few episodes. Good thoughts on Villain and Jesus of Nazareth. Looks like he has been a serious television performer. Good to see his hard work has allowed him to have a nice bankroll. Thanks for the vote up and for the visit….always good stuff.

    2. Hey Søren. Good to hear from you. I had to actually look up what you were talking about…as I not aware of his Lovejoy at all. At first I thought it was his character from Deadwood (another show I have never seen an episode of)…but I see it ran from 1986 to 1994. That is a good run for a television show. I will have to check that one out. Thanks for the suggestion and the visit…both are greatly appreciated.
