    1. Hey Dan
      1. Pretty impressive lists for somebody that did not really make a lot of movies.
      2. I will forgive her for not working with Michael Caine….but they still might be able to pull that off….lol.
      3. Lee Marvin in The Russians Are Coming? Was it a cameo role?
      4. The current list is pretty impressive especially when she made so few movies….nobody in the Top 50…..now that sounds like an unusual stat.
      5. 20 Oscar winners in 20 movies is a pretty good ratio.
      Good information as always.

      1. He’s not in the movie so she has 19. I don’t know how that happened. For the old Oracle of Bacon lists I usually copied from the IMDB and pasted it in, now everything has to be manually added due to the way it is setup now. So I’m assuming somebody had that info there say 8 years ago when I started the database and then they excised it. I have seen 19 of her films, the one I missed is Don’t Come Knocking.

        1. Hey Dan….thanks for the correction…..it was confusing me for sure. So you have seen 19….or 95%….pretty impressive….and knocks me from the top spot…..thanks friend…lol. Not thinking many people have seen Don’t Come Knocking…..so know…..you are not alone. Thanks again.

  2. First, you say at the beginning of this page that you will rank 28 movies instead of 20.

I’m thrilled you did a page on another classic actress.

I have seen 9 Eva Marie Saint movies.

The highest ranking movie I have seen is On The Waterfront.

The highest ranking film I have NOT seen is Grand Prix.

The lowest ranking film I have seen is All Fall Down.

    My Top Three Favourite Eva Marie Saint Movies;

    North By Northwest
    The Stalking Moon
    36 Hours

The other movies I have seen besides On The Waterfront and My Favourites vin UMR order:

The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming
    Raintree County
    A Hatful of Rain
    The Sandpiper
    All Fall Down

    1. Hey Flora…..wow….I am currently on top of the tally contest…..I like the view….lol. Tally count…me 12, you 9 and Steve 7. My first miss is Raintree County…which is a movie I want to see…..just have never found the movie on VHS or DVD. Maybe streaming will allow me to finally see it. I have fixed the 28/20 movie error…thanks for the headsup on that. Of your Top 3….I am right there with you on 36 Hours and North by Northwest…..I thought The Stalking Moon was good….but not in my Top 3. Thanks as always for sharing your movie thoughts.

  3. Eva Marie Saint. Good choice. Leading lady of one of my all time favorite movies and no I don’t mean On the Waterfront.

I’ve seen 7 of the 20 films on the chart, in fact the first 7 on the list in UMR order.

Favorite of the 7 is North by Northwest followed by On the Waterfront. Good to see them top the UMR and critics chart. Exodus was a lot more successful than I thought. I like the main theme by Ernest Gold, he won that years music Oscar.

I might watch Grand Prix again, it’s been a while, I have a copy on DVD, should have stereo sound. I like the use of split screen in that film.

    Another winner Bruce. Vote Up!

    1. Hey Steve
      1. Thanks for the feedback…always appreciated.
      2. I have seen 12 of her movies…maybe 13…I just am not 100% sure about Cancel My Reservation.
      3. Her career would still awesome if she only had North by Northwest and On The Waterfront….which are favorites as well.
      4. Exodus surprised me too…..I knew it was popular…just not this popular.
      5. Grand Prix is much better than the McQueen version…Le Mans……but neither is a movie I think about re-watching very often.
      Thanks for the vote up.

  4. Hi Bruce,
I did suggest an Eva Marie Saint page at some point (I think when you came up with an alternate ending to North by Northwest where Saint was thrown off the plane?), so thanks for doing it! It was nice to see Saint at the Oscars this year as it’s rare to see an actress of her generation still around. Overall, she made relatively few films and she never became a superstar, but I always thought there was something gentle and unassuming about her that made her memorable, though I think that because of these same qualities, Hollywood did not quite know what to do with her.

I agree with Joel (cunningly disguised but instantly recognizable) about 3 of the 4 best performances he mentions, On the Waterfront, North by Northwest and A Hatful of Rain. I have not seen All Fall Down. I think Saint also gave a strong performance opposite James Garner in 36 Hours.

    1. Hey PhilHOF17
      1. Yep…..we had that discussion just a week or two ago…it was regards to if Cary Grant had Dan Duryea’s screen persona…..and now she has a UMR page.
      2. I was listening to the DVD commentary of The Magnificent Seven….and thought (since it was slightly dull)….I could do an UMR page pretty quickly.
      3. I agree it was great to see her at the Oscars…and looking pretty awesome too. Compare her appearance to Bette Davis’ Oscar appearance…it is night and day different.
      4. I agree….it is a shame that she did not appear in more movies.
      5. So you were able to see through Joel’s disguise?…..lol. Glad you agree with him…..I have not seen either All Fall Down or A Hatful of Rain…..but now I want to.
      6. I liked her as well in 36 Hours….her an James Garner had a nice screen chemistry….I wish they would have been the lovers in Grand Prix too.
      7. Another performance that I really liked…was her role in Nothing in Common……the first time Tom Hanks really showed that he had some acting chops…..I remember hoping Saint and Gleason would get Oscar nomination…but sadly that did not happen.
      Good feedback as always.

  5. Eva Marie Saint has had few roles worthy of her abilities, but she gives every part elegance and grace. She’s Faye Dunaway with warmth, and it’s regrettable she couldn’t have done Network or Chinatown.

Our 4 Star Eva Marie Saint Performances
    1954’s On The Waterfront
    1957’s A Hatful of Rain
    1959’s North By Northwest
    1962’s All Fall Down

    1. Hey Leoj Nrohhcsrih. Good to see not only my favorite Eva Marie Saint movie…but one of my all-time favorite movies period get a 4 star performance…love North by Northwest….as well as her Oscar winning performance in On The Waterfront.
