  1. F. Murray Abraham, good actor. Apparently he added the F to his name in honor of his father Fahrid.

I’ve seen 19 of the 40 films on the chart. Favorites include – Scarface, Serpico, Amadeus, Bonfire of the Vanities, Star Trek Insurrection, Grand Budapest Hotel, All the Presidents Men, Last Action Hero, An Innocent Man, 13 Ghosts, Mimic. Name of the Rose and How to Train Your Dragon.

Surprised All The Presidents Men didn’t top the critics chart, it didn’t even make the top 5 Bruce old chap. Hang on a mo… was Abraham even in that film? Have to watch it again.

    Nice work Bruce. Vote Up!

  4. F Murray Abraham movies I have seen, listed in no particular order.

    1/Prisoner of 2nd Avenue

    2/All the President’s men

    3/Scarface

4/The Last Action Hero – which I have at times confused with Willis’ Last Boy Scout

5/In the Name of the Rose- This movie was an enormous flop in the US with an adjusted Cogerson gross of just $17.7 million. However it was a financial hit in many countries overseas so that its worldwide gross is 190 million in adjusted dollars against a budget equal to just 40 million in today’s dollars.

    6/Mimic

    7/An Innocent Man

    8/Bonfire of the Vanities

    9/Finding Hirschhorn.

The last named is probably my fave Connery movie the Bonds never holding great appeal for me. It tells of a talented academic who is thrown together with, and becomes fascinated with a brilliant but reclusive writer who is somewhat of a local hero.

Nowadays when I think of that film I tend to associate it with a similar ‘relationship’ on this site where a man of learning has discovered and become fascinated with a writer unfortunately no longer alive but whose writings are often quoted on this site as if additions to the famed Biblical Ten Commandments. Certainly the latter figure could be considered a ‘local hero’ on the Cogerson site.

  5. “There goes Salieri, the man who murdered Mozart.”

I used to confuse F Murray with Ben Kingsley as both became virtual “one hit wonders” in terms of top movie stardom by playing real-life historical figures: F Murray as Antonio Salieri who in his lifetime was suspected of murdering Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart [wrongly according to historians] and Kingsley played the revered Mahatma Gandhi regarded as one of history’s greatest political figures.

I have seen 9 of Abraham’s movies and I list these in part two of this post. Abraham has also enjoyed prolific TV and theatrical careers with Wikipedia listing 49 of his stage productions; and indeed since Amadeus, he has tended to part-specialize in the classical aspect of the theatre and has starred in many Shakespearean presentations such as Othello and Richard III.

His movie career still continues though as illustrated in the tables above and in fact awaiting release from him is The Magic Flute which in a way reunites him with his old pal Amadeus –

“17-year-old Tim Walker travels from London to the Austrian Alps to attend the legendary Mozart boarding school. There, he discovers a centuries-old forgotten passageway into the fantastic world of Mozart’s “The Magic Flute.”

IMDB credits F Murray with 9 acting awards and 12 nominations [a surprisingly low tally [especially for such a prestigious actor] by today’s standards and Celebrity Net Worth site says he is currently worth $10 million.

“Voted Up” especially for the pleasure he gave me as Salieri.
