Hey G. Vandross…..good catch…I had forgotten about his directing career….First Daughter was already on the page….as he has an acting role in it……but now Waiting To Exhale and Hope Floats are on the table too.
1 Although Forest Whitaker has performed well in leading roles such as that of Idi Amin in Last King of Scotland and Lee Daniels’ The Butler critics and other movie observers seem to most value him overall as a strong character actor as indicated in the lead-in above.
2 My own personal favourite Whtaker performance is though in TV’s The Enemy Within (1994) which I saw as a DVD. That production is a remake of the 1964 Seven Days in May with Forest in the Kirk Douglas part and the brilliant Jason Robards Jr in the Lancaster role. Forest was nominated for a Screen Actor’s Guild Award for his work in that one.

2. I would say he started out as supporting actor…..gained leading man status for awhile….with Bird’s critical success….but has now slipped back into the supporting roles…..with huge successes like Star Wars Rogue One, Arrival and now Black Panther.
3. I am not aware of The Enemy Within…..but you make it seem worth checking out.

I’ve seen 24 of the 60 films listed. Favorites include the much loved ‘Battlefield Earth’ (I think Whitaker got his first Oscar nom for this film), Repo Men (another all time great), Species (pure class), Panic Room, Platoon, The Color of Money, Stakeout, Good Mooorning Vietnaaam!, Rogue One and The Last King of Scotland.

Black Panther predicted to gross $700m worldwide, whoa ho, all things considered. Marvel has the midas touch. Infinity War is the big one this year.

2. 24 seen….let’s see….I am at….counting….36….and have heard First Daughter many times in the background as our oldest daughter really liked that movie.
3. I think you are correct….his first Oscar nomination was for Battlefield Earth….lol. I actually kind of like that movie…..one day I will listen to the DVD commentary of that movie.
4. Bird has a great performance from Whitaker….but it is a slow depressing as hell movie…I saw it because of the director Clint Eastwood.
5. I actually think Black Panther will exceed the worldwide predictions….but I think it will be hard to reach $400….but we will know in about 2 weeks.
6. The Midas Marvel Touch is still going full force…..even with DC trying to take it away from them.
Just this year Marvel will have monster hits with Black Panther, Deadpool 2, Infinity War and probably Venom.
