  1. I saw 4 including top 2. 10 and favourite: in harms way. hidden gem: today we live(very dark, a 9) Tone out performs cooper and Crawford as does young. why is mutiny a 9 and not a 10? I loved laughton’s performance, i didn’t love Gable’s performance, weird ending.

    1. Hey Dan. Thanks for the Franchot Tone lists. Not surprised he is not on the list currently….but I bet if the list existed in 1945, he would have been one of the higher ones listed. He made almost 40 movies in the 1930s alone. So Akim Tamiroff is the leader on the first list while Tone’s ex-wife, Joan Crawford, is the leader on the Oscar list….each with 7 movies. His Oscar winning co-star is pretty impressive…lots of mega stars on that list….including 10 AFI Screen Legends. Overall, I would say 32 Oscar winning co-stars is a little on the low side…especially for somebody that made movies for almost 40 years. Good trivia….as always…thanks for sharing it. You are the man!

    2. thanks dan, good to see john wayne , who I love above henry fonda , who I don’t love. sad to see Katherine Hepburn fall off. sad to see spencer tracy has fallen off I love him. I am developing appreciation for tone. your lists help.

  3. My original comment showed up, so there are two of nearly the same comment. I listed my favourites in a separate order, otherwise they are the same. When I did my first comment and try to submit it, it said that I had a duplicate comment and that I was to go back to the previous page.

  4. There is a fabulous film noir movie you do not have listed in this table. It is called Phantom Lady and Tone enters it about an hour into the film. He is the killer. Try to find box office information on it so that it can be included.

I have seen 26 Franchot Tone movies.

The HIGHEST rated movie I have seen is Mutiny on the Bounty.

The highest rated movie I have NOT seen is Three Comrades.

The LOWEST movie I have seen is Pilot #5.

    Favourite Franchot Tone Movies:

    Mutiny on the Bounty
The Lives of a Bengal Lancer
    Five Graves to Cairo
    Dancing Lady
    Love on the Run
    The King Steps Out
    Suzy
    EVery Girl should Get Married
    No More Ladies
    The Bride Wore Red
    Three Loves Has Nancy
    Here Comes the Groom
    Bombshell
    The Girl From Missouri
    Quality Street
    Dangerous
    Reckless
    Midnight Mary
    Fast and furious

Other Franchot Tone Movies I Have Seen:

    The Gorgeous Hussy
    In Harms Way
    Man-Proof
    Gabriel Over the White House
    Today We Live
    Mickey One
    Pilot #5

Tone was in an episode of The Twilight Zone in which he bet one of the other members of his club that the man could not keep silent for a full year. The man takes a creepy was out.

    1. Well Flora, your tally is easily the most. Actually it more than doubles Steve and my combined total. As for Phantom Lady….I did go digging into the Harrison Reports…and found it was listed as Good/Fair for it’s initial run…..looking at the 16 other movies that got that “rated”….it translates to about $55 million in adjusted gross. It should be on this table when the next update finishes. I did notice it got some pretty high reviews. Thanks for bringing that movie to my attention.

As for your favorites…I have only seen three of them…I liked Mutiny on the Bounty and Dancing Lady. Every Girl Should Be Married is far from being one of my favorite Cary Grant movies. FYI…me and WoC rewatched My Favorite Wife tonight….now that is one of my favorite Cary Grant movies. Suzy is one of the few Grant movies that I have not seen….but one day I will check that movie out.

As for the others that you have seen…only seen In Harm’s Way…which I thought was pretty good. The Gorgeous Hussey made a lot of money at the box office….yet many consider it to be Joan Crawford’s worst movie ever. Good feedback as always.

    2. Hey Flora….Phantom Lady is now on the list….coming in as the 24th best UMR movie…but 5th when looking at the review %….so good call in asking for it to be included.
