Need to know which Gene Wilder movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.

Gene Wilder (1933-2016) was a 2-time Oscar nominated actor, writer and director.  Wilder gained fame for his many movies with Mel Brooks (The Producers, Blazing Saddles & Young Frankenstein) but to many like me he will always be Willy Wonka.  Wilder’s IMDb page shows 37 acting credits from 1961-2015.  This page will rank Gene Wilder movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television roles, cameos, shorts and straight to DVD movies were not included in the rankings.

Drivel Part:  Recently we wrote a page on Wilder’s frequent co-star, Richard Pryor.  While doing that research on that page, we thought Gene Wilder would make a good UMR movie star page.  Sadly today, August 29th 2016 brings the sad news that Gene Wilder passed away at 83.   So as a tribute to his movie career….we put together this page.  Rest in peace Mr. Wilder…you will be missed.  Drivel Part 2:  Wow within a 25 minute window…a got an e-mail from Steve Lensman, a text from my wife and a phone call from son #2 about his passing.

  1. Dedicated to Gene Wilder aka Jerome Silberman and to the treasure and legacy, he has gifted us with namely: To make people laugh… because laughing is self-healing

    By Gaia’s Child

    Gene was wildest
    While being mildest
    He was in-Gene-ous
With the genes of a genius
    In each one of us
    He awakens this gene
    Coloring wild, the gray life-scene
Why do I say “he was?”
Since he is effect and cause
Causing our lives to become liveable
Effecting us all to grasp the unperceivable
That which makes comedy out of the tragic
And a smile as powerful as magic

Gene will live on as Chaplin did
Such Greatness will escape the matrix
    And reconstruct the grid

    1. Hey Human…..thanks for sharing this great tribute to Gene Wilder….it is very well done. RIP Gene Wilder.

  2. It was last night when I heard the news that Gene Wilder died and I just assumed you had heard too. Next time I hear I will call and let you know. He was pretty active in the movies and I knew who he was. I remember when he lost his wife Gilda Radner. I have not seen any of his movies – perhaps previews – I did see Bonnie and Clyde but do not remember him in that movie. Another good site. Thank you.

    1. Hey Bern1960…yep I got word from Steve from London, Debbie from William and Mary and Scotty from Va Beach….and nothing from Bern of Suffolk. It is ok…we forgive you. He had a small but funny role in Bonnie and Clyde…he played a mortician that gets thrown from the car when they realize what he does for a job. Thanksf for the compliment and the visit.

  3. Hey Bruce. First of all Rest in Peace Jerome Silberman better known as Gene Wilder. I just commented on your Pryor page about Silver Streak and how I was shocked to learn today that Wilder had passed away. For your tally counts, from Melbourne, I have seen 9 of his movies. My top 5 would be Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, The World’s Greatest Lover, See No Evil, Heat No Evil and The Frisco Kid. I did not like Silver Streak and for some reason The Producers has never been funny to me. This is a great tribute to Gene Wilder. The man was loved throughout the world.

    1. Hey Helakoski….Thanks for the tally count…..9 puts you in 3rd place….16 for Steve…12 for me….9 for you and 8 for Laurent…..so you are from Australia….very cool….Melbourne has been a great city when it comes to views on my pages. I like your Top 5…though I have not yet seen The World’s Greatest Lover. Thanks for the kind words about my Wilder tribute.

  4. The outpouring of basically the entire entertainment industry says it all. Everybody loved Gene. They loved him simply enough because he was good man, who showed you can make it in this world by being a very good man to everybody.

What a great example for young people. Gene, RIP my old friend. You showed me in my youth what humor was, and showed me in adulthood, how to stay a good man.

I wish he could have seen all the love before he died.

    1. Hey TCM Richard…..your comment is very well thought out…and a pleasure to read. I agree with the entire comment….but especially ….”I wish he could have seen all the love before he died”. Thanks for sharing those thoughts.

  5. When I was around seven years old, I was completely obsessed with the movie “Young Frankenstein”. While many of my other friends had pictures of pink unicorns and princess shit draping their walls, I proudly covered mine with the movie poster bought from Spencers with the chore money I had saved for months. The thing was ridiculous or at least that is what my Mom repeatedly told me. It was easily two feet taller than I and it was glorious despite my Mom’s assessment. Although I eventually got taller than it, that piece of oversized paper hung in the same spot till I was in double digits and I still had the same amount of affection for it through the years. I was (obviously) always drawn to Gene Wilder’s weirdness and his gentle spirit as well. May the sound of all the laughter you gave the world lead you peacefully to your final matinee in the clouds, Gene. You get part of the credit for the loving weirdo I am today whether you want it or not!

    1. Great thoughts on Gene Wilder and Young Frankenstein. RIP Gene Wilder. Good to see your favorite Wilder movie, Young Frankenstein is his number 1 movie out of 22 movies. Castle Heights rules…lol.
