Getting To Know Søren

This is the third in a new series of “Getting to Know”  Pages from Ultimate Movie Rankings.com.   Our interview this time around is with UMR Hall of Famer (Class of 2014) Søren.   Søren has been commenting on our movie pages for almost a decade now.   So we figured it was time to learn a little more about Søren.

Cogerson –  It has always interested me in knowing which thespian made the first impact on a person. Who was the first actor or actress that you knew by their actual name?

Søren  My father was a huge fan of Charlie Chaplin, Laurel & Hardy, and Buster Keaton. Of those three I would say seeing Chaplin as the Little Tramp is the first time I put an actor to a role.

One of the most famous movie father and son combos…Sean Connery and Harrison Ford in Indy Jones 3: The Last Crusade

Cogerson – So we can assume your father is a big reason you like movies so much?  My dad, mom and grandmother are the ones that got me going down this movie path.

Søren  Gotta put the blame on my father, I was always watching movies with him.  He could not get enough of Chaplin, Keaton and Stan & Ollie.

Cogerson – When I was younger, I was convinced that Disney’s Gus was the greatest movie of all-time.  Today, I realize, though it might be the best mule playing football movie, it is not very good.  What movies did little Søren think were awesome when he was a kid?

Søren –  I remember watching a lot of movies with Terence Hill & Bud Spencer. They were huge in Europe in the late seventies & I loved them – not so much today.

Cogerson –  Buying my first ticket to an R-rated movie was a big deal back in the day.  Do you remember the first R-Rated movie you got a ticket for?

Søren I think it was Halloween (1978) – it was scary.

Cogerson – You are not the only person to feel that way.  I did not watch horror movies for years because of the original Halloween.

Cogerson –  What are your Top 3 movies of all-time?

Søren –  Difficult, but let’s say 1972’s The Godfather, 1966’s The Good, the Bad and the Ugly,
1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark and 1985’s  Back to the Future. And yes, I know I just gave you four movies.

Cogerson – It’s ok to sneak an extra movie in….especially when all four of your favorite movies made my personal Top 100 Movies Of All-Time list.

Cogerson –  What are some of your other favorite movie genres?

Søren –  I will go with action and comedy movies as my favorites genres.

Cogerson – Do you have any favorite actors or actresses?

Søren –  That is the easiest question so far….I will go with Clint Eastwood.

Cogerson – I would say you, Steve and Flora have been reading these pages the longest.  At least of the people not related to me.   I know it has been a while, but do you remember how your first discovered our movie ranking pages?

Søren–  I was trying to find box office information on Charlton Heston.  During an internet search I found your page on Hubpages. I’ve been following a long ever since.

Cogerson –  Thank you Søren for taking the time to answer these questions.  Thank you for all the support and suggestions you have provided over the last decade.  Thank you for being one of the few people (only you and Steve can make that claim) to follow me to CogersonMovieScore.com.  Thank you helping UMR become a modestly successful website. You are truly deserving of your UMR Hall of Fame status.

    1. Hey bob cox. Thanks for checking out Soren’s interview. That is the 2nd UMR Hall of Famer to do an interview. Hopefully we can get you to share some memories in the near future. Good stuff.

  1. I agree with Soren’s Top 3 no make that 4 movies. Those are some great movies. Cogerson Movie Score? Not sure I understand that part of the interview. Impressive that Soren has been a contributor for so long. I liked the interview.

    1. Hey Taylor. Glad you like Soren’s top movies and his interview. As for CogersonMovieScore.com(CMS) that was our first paid website after leaving HubPages. The tables looked nice, but it took forever to create a new page. That resulted in few new pages. Limited views…in almost 3 years we had about 2.5 million views….which sounds alright, but that was less than what we were averaging at HubPages and was costing us to post the pages. The frustration of how long it took to do a table is what got us to dump that website and provider and create UMR. Steve and Soren were my only commenters in those CMS bleak days….besides my blood relatives. UltimateMovieRankings was almost called UlimateMovieRanker until Steve informed us that name would not play well in England. Probably way too much information, but you asked….lol. Good stuff.

      1. Hey Taylor. Even more information. I wrote about 215 pages at Hub Pages in about 2 years. I wrote less than 70 in almost 3 years at CMS. Since 2015, I have written at UMR almost 1,000 ranking pages, created about 4,500 trailer pages and over 2,000 posts. Our grand total of view getting pages/posts is about 9,000. Sorry felt the urge to share.

        1. Hey Taylor. Here to help. I noticed you pass BryRog57 on the Top Commentor List…..you are moving on up.

  2. WORK HORSE:

Isn’t taunting me with Joel enough red meat for you: why do you have to keep repeating these Alan Ladd type jokes?

    1. Hey Bob…..that short person joke was aimed at Tom Cruise….if it was about Lassie trying to make somebody look bigger then your Alan Ladd would be a suspect…,lol. Good stuff.

  3. One of the funniest comments Søren ever made on our websites was about the movie War Of The Worlds. He said….”I am not even sure why Dakota Fanning is in the movie…..other than to make Tom Cruise look tall.”

    Next UMR Hall of Famer?….Calling PhilHoF17….Calling PhilHoF17……..Calling PhilHoF17.
