  1. I was surprised when Interesting Fact 4 above informed me that Pacino turned down Hector’s Pretty Woman part. It was a plumb showy role but a small one and the Heirs to Brando are not supposed to do support when still in their heyday unless in prestigious ensemble cameo and Al had just behind him the 1989 hit Sea of Love and just ahead of him was his 1992 Oscar-winning Scent of a Woman and the now-classic 1995 Heat with De Niro.

However Al turning down the PW role was undoubtedly great fortune for Hec as his main claim to fame is probably Pretty Woman and while I liked him in that I became the most familiar with his work via my trips to the video library in the 1990s.

The films that appeared there featuring him were often straight-to-video releases or TV movies that were later packaged for the video libraries and which therefore do not appear in Bruce’s charts.

Examples of the kind of material I am talking about are 1995’s Perfect Alibi co-starring Teri Garr about which one reviewer said “It is so bad that it must have been made for a dollar”; and 1992’s The Burden of Proof a TV mini-series co-starring Brian Dennehy.

In the 1990s Dennehy and Rutger Hauer were nicknamed The Video Library Kings; and of course Hauer, Dennehy and Teri Garr all have their own Cogerson pages so it is good to see them now joined by worthy-recipient Hector.

I last saw Hec over the recent 12 months or so in TV reruns of (1) a 1975 episode of Columbo called A Case if Immunity where he was the guest villain. As always his acting was very clever (2) a 1997 Christmas TV movie called Borrowed Hearts co-starring Eric McCormack. Hec deliciously played a do-gooder business tycoon and at the end we are left with the impression that he might be Santa posing as an ‘ordinary’ guy.

“Voted Up!” as seeing this Cogerson profile of Hector and recalling also Brian Dennehy and Rutger Hauer reminds me nostalgically of my happy Video Library Days in the early 90s when I loved to watch my videos with a bottle of wine. I don’t drink any more and over here at least the video libraries are all gone – what the English novelist Sir Philip Gibbs called “The Spoils of Time”.

The HIGHEST rated movie I have seen is Pretty Woman.

The highest rated movie I have NOT seen is Lego Batman Movie.

The LOWEST rated movie I have seen is The Landlord.

    Favourite Hector Elizondo Movies:

    Pretty Woman
The Taking of Pelham One, Two, Three

Other Hector Elizondo Movies I Have Seen:

    Beaches
    Overboard
    The Landlord

    1. Hey Flora. Thanks for checking out our Hector E. page. Tally counts: Cogerson 24, Steve 11 and you at 5. I have only seen 3 of the 5 you have seen. Pretty Women is one of WoC’s favorite movies. I have not seen The Landlord or Beaches….somehow I have managed to avoid Beaches all these years….but seeing that it is not in your favorites…maybe I am not missing anything. I would recommend Nothing In Common…..it has a good performance by Tom Hanks and Jackie Gleason and Eve Marie Saint shine as his parents. As always good stuff.

  3. I’ve seen 11 of the 52 films on the chart. Favorites are – Pretty Woman, Taking of Pelham 123, The Book of Life, LEGO Batman Movie, Beverly Hills Cop III, Leviathan and Young Doctors in Love.

Score wise Pretty Woman did better from my sources than it did here Bruce. It would probably have been no.3 on my Elizondo chart, if I had one. 🙂

    Good stuff. Vote Up!

    1. Hey Steve…..thanks for checking out our Hector Elizondo page. I recently saw Tortilla Soup and thought he should have a page. Tally counts: Cogerson 24, you at 11 and Flora with 5. I have seen all of your favorites with the exception of Leviathan. Young Doctors In Love was a pretty funny movie, though I have not seen it in decades. Pretty Woman is one of WoC’s Top 5 movies. I liked The Book of Life…a movie that seems to have influenced Coco. As for Pretty Woman….I went back and looked at my review score and checked the sources again….it moved from a 62% to a 68%. I realized it had been 10 years since I had checked out those sources. Have we really been talking movies on the internet for over ten years? Nothing In Common would be the movie I would recommend watching…..granted it does star Tom Hanks so maybe it was in the “not favorites” from your tally count. Good stuff as always.

  4. Hector Elizondo is no longer on the Oracle of Bacon Top 1000 Center of the Hollywood Universe list. He was # 416 back in 2005 in the IMDB days. These are the actors on the 2020 list he has appeared with (quite a few for someone not on).

    1. Hey Dan. Good job on these two lists….both are pretty impressive. So Hector was a member of the Oracle list, but now is nowhere to be found. I guess the change in reporting and an entire decade on a television show hurt that ranking a lot. That show was the Tim Allen comedy, Last Man Standing. First list is pretty long. Larry Miller, another Garry Marshall favorite is easily the most frequent Oracle co-star. FYI. Apparently Miller is best friends with Gary Seinfeld. I found it interesting that Richard Gere and Julia Roberts have 4 movies with Hector…but two are the same movie. 29 Oscar winning co-stars is a little less than average for somebody that has been working for so long. Interesting that he has not crossed paths with Sir Michael. Good information as always.
