  • Sort Jack Black movies by adjusted domestic box office grosses using current movie ticket cost (in millions)
  • Sort Jack Black movies by yearly domestic box office rank

  1. 16 of Jack Black’s s movies have crashed the Cogerson 100 million dollar barrier but in those 16 movies he could be said to have the lead role in just 7, three of which are the Kung Fu Panda voice only animated films.

His 27 other films outside the Top 16 in the table above have an overall adjusted domestic gross of around $920 million or approx. just $34 million per movie.

However he seems to be a multi-talented character, Wiki’s write-up of him suggests that he leads an admirable private life [the anit-Crowe!] and I feel that I share some of his apparent ideals. Accordingly I am pleased to welcome this new page.

    1. CORRECTION

In my last post I should have said Jack Black had 17 Cogerson 100 mil crashers – apologies – but still in only 7 of them could he be said to have the lead role

    2. Hey Bob Roy…good breakdown on Jack Black’s stats. His stand alone movies have not fared as well as his supporting roles……but he will forever known to kids as the voice of Po the Kung Fu Panda…a movie (movies) that still get played pretty often in our house. Thanks for checking out our latest page. Good stuff as always.

      1. HI BRUCE

Thanks for the feedback on my Jack Black posts.

Richard Burton in an interview once said that asBrando could do so much with silent expressions had he been around in silent movies he would historically have been regarded as the greatest actor that ever lived

What – Amazing! Burton actually thought that Marlon WASN’T the greatest and Richard loftily dismisses those great oratorical skills that Steve so admires! Richard may have had something though given that Brando films because of his facial acting are apparently used as educational learning aids for people who are deaf or have hearing impairments

Anyhow there is no doubt in my mind though that Jack Black has not missed his calling because as an actor he was almost born for voice-over roles [another is John Ratzenberger who plays postman Cliff Clavin in TV’s sitcom Cheers, and provides the vocies of Husband Crab in Finding Dory and Underminer in The Incredibles movies]. Hence I can understand Black’s Panda movies being a hugh hit in your household – with possibly the biggest kid of all enjoying them the most !!

    1. Hey Dan….epic epic first list. Nine projects with Ben Stiller….that is up there with the Stiller/Owen Wilson team. when I saw Ice Age getting some links mentioned, I realized that I had left that movie off the charts…so thank you for that. So Mr. Black is still moving up the charts. A quick check on IMDb only shows 2 movies in “production”…and one of them is Jumanji 3….which is far far away. 35 Oscar winning co-stars is pretty impressive….it seems like he is a young actor……but he is only a couple years younger than me….and I am apparently old…lol. As for Michael Caine…I guess it is not possible for Sir Mike to work with everybody….lol. Good information….thanks for sharing it with us.

  3. I’ve seen 19 of the 43 films on the chart. Favorites are Kung Fu Panda 1-2-3, Shark Tale, King Kong, Jumanji 2, Tropic Thunder, Mars Attacks!, Waterworld and Demolition Man.

I can’t even remember Jack in Waterworld and Demolition Man, must have been minor roles. Bruce has the luxury of including all of an actor’s films no matter high tiny their role was, while I have to do a bit of research and see if the role was substantial enough to be included in my videos. I mean imagine my Alan Ladd video with Citizen Kane in the top spot instead of Shane, just doesn’t seem right does it? [Bob grunts]

Case in point, looking at the critics chart – Dead Man Walking is Black Jack’s highest rated movie and he was barely in that film. Your honor, I rest my case! 😉

Jumanji was a humongous success, more than doubling the gross for this year’s Star Wars movie – Solo. Who could have predicted that?

I’ll bet Bruce can’t wait to take his children out to see Jack Black’s latest – The House of Clocks and Walls or whatever it was called.

Good work as always Bruce. Vote Up.

    1. Hey Steve
      1. Thanks for the visit, the tally count, for sharing your thoughts on Jack Black movies and for being a quality human being…lol.
      2. Since your comment, I realized that we (ok I screwed up…WoC had nothing to do with it) did not include Ice Age……so my tally is now 35….and I am sure yours is now 20.
      3. I like all of your favorites with the exception of Mars Attacks!…..Black was the 12th person associated with that movie to get an UMR page….that is getting up there….when looking at movies with the most UMR subjects…..I did not see that coming at all.
      4. Yes he had minor roles in Waterworld, Demolition Man and Dead Man Walking……but they were part of his path to superstardom.
      5. I just saw an IMDb interview with Black….and he tells a funny story about the making of Demoliion Man….https://www.imdb.com/list/ls025720609/videoplayer/vi71875353?ref_=hm_vd_jb_im_i_1
      6. As for Dead Man Walking being his top rated movie…..well…your honor….the name of the website is Ultimate Movie Wankers…..lol.
      7. Jumanji was a monster hit….shocking almost everybody.
      8. As for The House With A Clock In Its Walls……it is not registering with my little ones….so not thinking I will be seeing it in theaters.
Thanks for the vote up. Good stuff.

  4. He is better in small doses. I enjoy his supporting roles more than his starring roles. He did shine in last years Jumanji. No idea he had been in so many movies.

    1. Hey Taylor. I can easily understand your point. Seems the Black movies I like the most are the ones that he is a supporting character. Jumanji 2 he is the 3rd star, Tropic Thunder he is the third star, High Fidelity is a minor but funny role. Meanwhile ….School of Rock is the only leading man role I really like of his. Thanks for stopping.

  5. saw 20. 8 of top 13. 10s: dead man walking and bob Roberts( favourite). hidden gems: holiday, the jackal, high fidelity all 8s

    1. bob Roberts is a twisted political thriller/satire. I love the jabs at religious zealots. tim robbins in one of his greatest efforts: shawshank redemption, the player, bull durham, mystic river, the war of the worlds. alan rickman is perfect. the cutting edge reality video is fun.

      1. Hey bob cox….Bob Roberts is one of the 9 movies that I have not seen on this list….sounds like I need to check it out. Also sounds like you would be interested in a Tim Robbins page….lol. Good stuff.

    2. Hey bob cox…thanks for checking out our Jack Black page. I have seen 34 of these 43 movies. Did not know I was such a huge Jack Black fan. I was around the filming of the Jackal…as parts were filmed in Richmond, Virginia. I tried to get as close as possible to the set….but security kept me from getting into the movie….lol. High Fidelity is a great movie….glad to see that it has aged well. Good feedback.
