Possibly Interesting Facts About Jet Li

1. Li Lianjie was born in Beijing, China in 1963.  His Mandarin name is Li Lianjie.  His Cantonese name is Lei Lin-Git.

2.  Li Lianhie acquired his screen name in 1982 in the Philippines when a publicity company thought his real name was too hard to pronounce. They likened his career to an aircraft, which likewise “takes-off” as quickly, so they placed the name Jet Li on the movie posters. Soon everybody was calling him by this new name, which was also based on the nickname, “Jet”, given to him as a young student, due to his speed and grace when training with the Beijing Wushu team.

3. Jet Li won the Chinese national championship in the acrobatic martial art wushu when he was 11; his prize was a trip to Washington D.C. to meet President Richard Nixon.

4. According to Jet Li, everything he has ever wanted to tell the world can be found in three of his films: the message of Hero (2002) is that the suffering of one person can never be as significant as the suffering of a nation; Unleashed (2005) shows that violence is never a solution; and Fearless (2006) tells that the biggest enemy of a person is himself. Li thinks that the greatest weapon is a smile and the largest power is love.

5.  Jet Li nearly died during the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami but both he and his daughters just barely escaped with only minor injuries.

Favorites include – Hero, Unleashed, Forbidden Kingdom, Lethal Weapon 4, Romeo Must Die, Black Mask, The Expendables, Fearless, Kiss of the Dragon and Mulan.

I have 30 Jet Li films on DVD which includes the following Hong Kong movies –

JOE PESCI Lethal Weapon 4 (1998)
    MORGAN FREEMAN UNLEASHED (2005)

    1. Hey Dan. Short lists but interesting ones for sure. First list is loaded with Expendables. So Pesci and Freeman are the only Oscar winners he worked with. Stallone almost joined that group…still surprised Sly did not win for Creed. I remember I actually had our Best Supporting Actor Page updated with Sly winning…and when Mark Rylance got named instead….I had to quickly redo that page. Good stuff as always.
