  1. There really is no comparison. Joan was a movie star, Bette an actress. There’s a big difference. Bette also fought for good scripts and made peoples lives miserable to get them, she also didn’t care about the glamor (or lack of) aspect of a good role. Joan was all glamor and had to play the part at all times. Joan however was a good actress & I think underestimated herself. She won an Oscar & was nominated several times, so she was obviously a well respected actress and a good one. I personally appreciate a truly good actress and could care less about the glamour aspect, Bette hands down made much better films. Could Joan have been Margo Channing, or even Jane Hudson? Now way! However the one role she did play very well, instead of Jane, was Blanche. I think she deserved a supporting actress nomination at the most.

    1. Hey Matt….I agree with most of your comment….with the exception of saying Bette was an actress…while that part is very true….she was a star in the same way that Crawford was….they were and are two the greatest actresses/stars to ever make movies. I am impressed with your breakdown of them in their different roles. Too bad they did not make more movies together…..because seeing them in Baby Jane is such fun. Great information in your comment….greatly appreciate it.

  2. This is very cool. I never knew about this link. Thank you for sharing this! I loved the movie The Woman”. I thought it and she were fabulous. I cannot believe how the remake of it was so butchered! I really liked “Rain”. I loved her performance. I also found the subject matter to be shocking for the time it came out. But that is what made it such movie.

  3. WoW!!! That is a lot of movies….I can say, with hesitation, I have seen none of them. But I do know who these ladies are. Seems like quite a career for both. My favorite way to look at these charts is first by the UMR score. I think it is the best all around way to determine the top movie/actor/actress/director/all of the above. The second thing I do is sort by box office. Everybody loves money. Its nice that Bette Davis has the highest UMR score but Joan Crawford is number at the box office and her best box office outproduced Davis by 30 million. Pretty cool stuff.

    1. Hey Bryan….a very impressive comment. I appreciate your approach to viewing the page. You have made some good points. I will say I am disappointed in myself that son of Cogerson has not seen a single Crawford or Davis. I might have screwed up your childhood…..lol.

  4. You’ve been busy Bruce!

So who won the battle? Is someone going to work out the ratings average for each drama queen? Who has the bigger box office? I’ve only seen a handful of films from each lady so I can’t really call myself a fan of either but it will be interesting to see who comes out on top.

All About Eve is the highest rated movie but Mildred Pierce has the biggest box office.

    1. Hey I thought about including a statistical breakdown….but in the end…figured I would resist putting a stamp on who won the skirmish…..though I think it is pretty clear who has the best statistics.

My area was shutdown for 5 days with snow….so I produced lots of new pages….but we went back to school today…..so my pace will slow down again.

As always…thanks for the visit and the comment.
