Jude Law Movies

Jude Law (1974-) is a British two time Oscar®-nominated actor.   Law has been acting for over 30 years, but it was his role in 1999’s The Talented Mr. Ripley that got him international notice.   Since then has become one of the most productive actors working today.   His IMDb page shows 72 acting credits since 1988.   This page ranks 41 Jude Law movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, cameos and his movies not released in North America theaters are not included in the rankings.

Jude Law Movies Can Be Ranked 6 Ways In This Table

The really cool thing about this table is that it is “user-sortable”. Rank the movies anyway you want.

  • Sort Jude Law movies by movie title and movie trailers.
  • Sort Jude Law movies by co-stars of his movies.
  • Sort Jude Law movies by adjusted domestic box office grosses using current movie ticket cost
  • Sort Jude Law movies by yearly domestic box office rank
  • Sort Jude Law movies how they were received by critics and audiences.  60% rating or higher should indicate a good movie.
  • Sort by how many Oscar® nominations each Jude Law movie received and how many Oscar® wins each Jude Law movie won.
  • Sort Jude Law movies by Ultimate Movie Rankings (UMR) Score.  UMR Score puts box office, reviews and awards into a mathematical equation and gives each movie a score.

    1. Hey Dan
      1. Thanks for sharing these 3 lists.
      2. 331? I bet after all of these movies open he will move up some….he has 4 movies coming out with 3 months of each other.
      3. Worked with 4 of the Top 10. He played Alfie….and then he starred opposite Alfie in Sleuth…both remakes are not my favorites….but Law’s Alfie is much better than Law and Caine’s Sleuth.
      4. Some awesome names on the list….but it looks like Ray Winestone is Law’s most frequent co-star.
      5. Always sad to see legends like Paul Newman falling completely off the list……from #67 to out the door….so sad…..the man is a legend.
      6. 31 Oscar winning co-stars is a good total….especially since it seems like his career is just getting going….then again….he is now in his mid 40s…..that used to sound old….now he seems like a “young en'”
      Good stuff as always.

  2. HI BRUCE

You must be subconsciously exercising psychic responses to your viewers’ thoughts because only yesterday was I asking myself what had become of Jude Law in terms of top stardom. With a succession of hits like Talented Mr Ripley, Cod Mountain and Road to Perdition [strangely missing from your table] he seemed on the verge of super stardom.

Since then though although he has been working steadily most of his roles have been secondary/supporting/ensemble with his stand-alone movies like Black Sea, Dom Hemmingway and Alfie all being commercial flops which are far down/near the bottom of your chart.

He has 3 movies in post-production so not shown on your table but in them all his roles would appear to again be secondary/supporting/ensemble. However one of them, A Rainy Day in New York, is written and directed by Woody Allen so perhaps THAT’s a bonus for Jude. He might consider that another bonus is a current net worth of $45 million

I last saw him in 2013’s Side Effects and I agree with your 81% rating for it and he had the main role in it though it too was a box office flop. However as your new page is an answer to my own pondering about Jude’s current progress I welcome it and give it a “Vote Up”

A short time ago the postman handed me a package and a quick glance inside it suggests it could be a Film Buff’s ”Bible” of some sort so I’m looking forward to perusing it later. I’ll be in touch with you again about it in due course.

    1. Hey Bob…..I just got this message on my phone. So glad it successfully made the trip.

    2. Hey Bob….thanks for the comment on Jude Law. Good catch on Road To Perdition….somehow I forgot to add that movie to the page…..but….it is now on the page….and sitting in 3rd place on the UMR scoreboard. Glad the Jude Law page was able to verify some of your thinking yesterday. I agree he has not really had a stand alone hit. But he is a pretty popular actor. I think Fantastic Beasts 2 and Captain Marvel are going to produce some solid box office numbers for him…..not so sure about his Natalie Portman and Woody Allen movies…I think both of those will quickly be on home entertainment. He was good in Side Effects…but like many of his other movies…he had lots of help…Channing Tatum, Rooney Mara and Catherine Zeta-Jones. I hope you enjoy the Film Buff’s Bible….I have worn (I am sure you can tell) that book out…..the 3rd one to bite the dust. 4th book is already in use….lol.

      1. HI BRUCE

Thanks for your feedback on my Jude Law post. I know you are a Hanks fan so I had to check his page to make sure that you hadn’t doubled up there the gross for Road to perdition to benefit Tom but saw that such was not the case!

I’ll be coming back to you soon with my first thoughts on Joel’s “Bible”. Take care meanwhile.

        1. Hey Bob…still trying to figure that one out…..how did I forget such a good movie like Road To Perdition. Nope, no box office gross padding going on here. As for Joel’s bible….good to know you have not used it for kindling….yet…..lol.

          1. HI BRUCE

I have found that anytime you leave a movie out it is usually because stats aren’t available and even then that normally applies to only very minor/obscure movies where you have profiled a star.

As I have said before over such a diverse and far reaching site your record of consistency is remarkable.

          2. Hey Bob….luckily it does not happen too often…as bad as it is leaving off the 3rd highest rated movie….one day it was even worse….for somebody years ago….I left off their top rated movie..that is a memory I have pushed aside…as know I do not even remember who that happened to.

  3. Been in love with Jude since his role in Closer. After seeing Closer I watch many of his older movies like Cold Mountain and Talented Mr. Ripley. So excited about his upcoming roles in Fantastic Beasts, Captain Marvel and Vox Lux. I am seeing The Crimes of Grindelwald this weekend. Really enjoyed this umr page.

    1. Hey Helakoski….glad we were able to write a page on somebody you like. Closer was a critical darling…but I was not a fan of that movie at all. Four mean not nice people in that movie….what a waste of a great cast….Roberts, Owen, Law and Portman. I think Fantastic Beasts is going to do very well this weekend. Captain Marvel is a MCU movie so you know that one will do awesome. I was not really aware of Vox Lux until this evening….the trailer looks “ok”. Hope you enjoy the new Fantastic Beasts movie. Good to hear from you.

  4. I’ve seen 24 out of the 41 films on the chart. I thought this was impressive until I saw Bruce had seen 33. Does this mean we’re secret Jude Law fanboys Brucie? No I haven’t got his poster up on my wall. I did have Elvis and Bruce Lee on my bedroom wall 45 years ago, I’m not blushing! Bob probably had a bare-chested Alan Ladd poster on his wall for goodness sake! [sniggers] 😉

Favorites include – Sherlock Holmes 1 & 2, Spy, Grand Budapest Hotel, Sky Captain, Enemy at the Gates, Rise of the Guardians, Gattaca and Hugo.

Not sure about seeing Crimes of Grindelwald at the cinema… sorry, ‘theater’, might just wait for the blu-ray.

I hope they make another Sherlock Holmes, they were good fun but I can see how they might not come over well with the Arthur Conan Doyle purists.

    Nice work Bruce. Vote Up!

    1. Hey Steve…..wow….a British actor I have your tally topped by almost double digits…did not see that coming. Since 2014, I have seen 9 of his movies….all with reviews at Letterboxd.com. https://letterboxd.com/cogerson/tag/jude-law/films/

No Jude Law posters here….lol. Growing up, I had American Football players on my wall….the great Roger Staubach (I hear the crickets)…..lol. Gattaca is a good movie…..and just misses my favorites list. I also hope they make another Sherlock movie. Was not much of a fan of Sky Captain….but it is interesting to look at. Good stuff as always.

  5. I have seen 33 of Jude Law’s movies. Shocked that I have seen over 80% of his movies. My Top 5 would be Hugo (looks great in 3D), Contagion (a truly scary movie), Sherlock Holmes (first one is a blast), Spy (wow a Melissa McCarthy movie that I like) and Rise of the Guardians (fun family movie).

On the negative side….his Sleuth is one of the worst sequels ever….I was so looking forward to that movie….and then I saw it…I have never even bothered to check out the DVD commentary. A.I. is a beautiful movie but so depressing that I have only seen it once.
