Cogerson Review 12/21/17

Why I watched this one? (1) The kids wanted to see it (2) I liked Robin Williams’ Jumanji. And (3) it has surprisingly gotten good reviews.

What is this one about? Four teenagers discover an old video game console and are literally drawn into the game’s jungle setting, becoming the adult avatars they choose.

My thoughts on this one? Yes there are many many silly moments in this one…..but it is a fun experience at the movies. Really liked the role reversal in this one. In the original, Jumanji came to our world. In this one, the main characters go to the Jumanji world. I also liked the fact that Jumanji turned itself into a video game versus a board game. This really opened up the movie. More importantly it allowed our main characters to die on screen……as each was given three lives. This added suspense to the entire movie as…especially for the kids I watched the movie with.

Movie offers up some nice performances from Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan and Jack Black. Although Black steals the movie, I felt The Rock actually did some acting in this one….and I liked it. Older viewers like myself, might spot Tim Matheson in a supporting role. This was like seeing an old high school classmate that you had not seen in years. Final thought: A fun movie that was enjoyed by everybody in my family.
