I remember going to the cinema to see Body Heat. I thought she was fantastic in it. A true female fatal. She had a great run in the 1980’s. Peggy Sue Got Married, Romancing the Stone, War of the Roses and Prizzi’s Honor.
Then by the 90’s it all seemed to go wrong. Always hoped that she would make a major comeback because she had a great personality. She was like an 80s version of Lauren Becall. I don’t know what she’s doing now, last time I seen her she was playing Chandler’s dad in Friends.
Hey Chris. Good to know Kathleen Turner and her role in Body Heat was memorable to others beside me. Her 1980s were awesome. Her health was the main reason her 1990s were not as stellar. I like your comparison to Lauren Bacall. I read somewhere, that one time Turner went up to Bacall and told her….”I’m the young you.” Today she is hard to recognize….she played the mother in Dumb and Dumber To…and it took awhile before I realized it was her. 1 For me the 3 movies that Kathleen made with Michael Douglas and Danny DeVito were a big part of the 1980s – Romancing the Stone, Jewel of the Nile and War of the Roses [also directed by Danny]. Your table above shows that those 3 flicks have a total adjusted domestic gross of some $575 which converts to an excellent $191 million average. Sadly Kathleen’s career floundered as the 1990s wore on though Michael’s flourished throughout that decade with hits like Basic Instinct and The American President.
2 The last Turner film that I watched was Monster House in which Kathleen had a voice only role and I recently enjoyed Michael’s performance as Liberace and also his acting in the 2014 Las Vegas with DeNiro and Morg Freeman & the 2015 And So it Goes with Diane Keaton. Overall I welcome this new page as a nostalgic trip back to a bygone era.
3 My personal favourite Kathleen Turner movie was the 1988 The Accidental Tourist with her Body Heat co-star William Hurt, another star whose post 1980s career must have been disappointing to him. At one stage in the late 1980 with three consecutive Oscar nominations in the bag [one of which was converted] it was thought that he would break Brando’s then record of 4 consecutive noms***. and become “the next big star”. Neither happened for William though he did earn a supporting actor Oscar for A History of Violence way later in 2006. I very much like him.
***Marlon still holds that record and is 8th on the list of overall nominations

1. I agree her trilogy with DeVito and Douglas are truly impressive……both by box office grosses and the quality of the movies.
2. Monster House is a fun movie…..but my kids have not interest in seeing that one again.
3. Douglas had a huge success with Ant-Man….the other movies you mentioned barely made a dent at the box office.
4. Brando has the record on the actor side….but Garson and Davis have the record on the actress side…as they both have 5 year spans.
5. Glad you liked Accidental Tourist….it was good….but does not crack my Top 5 when it comes to Turner movies.

2 Mr Mumbles was in good company if he nearly matched Garson and Davis on the actress side.and some philosopher has said that true greatness can be measured against only the established. greatness of another in the same field of expertise.
3 Steve would have been pleased that the fledgling Work Colt Cogerson was turned on by Kathleen when Bruce was a teenager because I get the impression sometimes that he feels you and I have stats running through our veins rather than blood.
4 I agree with you that Mike’s post-90s career never matched his heyday in that decade, his last big truly stand-alone hit being the 2000 Traffic, but he’s always entertaining to watch – as the title of one of his movies says “It runs in the family!”

1. I agree Brando’s 4 year run is in good company…..Garson and Davis’ 5 year runs might never be matched….as will Brando’s 4 year run. Bradley Cooper was the last one to reach 3 years in a row…..but like William Hurt’s career….it seems Cooper might be going down the ladder already.
2. The way Kathleen Turner manipulated William Hurt in the Body Heat….is nothing compared to what she could have talked the teenage Cogerson into doing….she could have played me like a fiddle….lol.
3. My loves Michael Douglas….he had a great career…..he got the Oscars (Wall Street and One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest)…but papa Kirk got the more important…lasting legacy.

House of Cards was one of my 10 best of 1993 and I hated War of the Roses. Kathleen is no longer on the Oracle of Bacon top 1000 Center of the Hollywood Universe list. 4. I did not like War of the Roses the first time I watched it…but it has grown on me over the years. When the divorce lawyer is the most likeable character in the movie….a movie might have a problem…lol.
5. I just watched Prizzi’s Honor….and I did not spot Stanley Tucci in the movie….he must play one of the henchman….and he probably had hair…..so he was hard to spot.
6. I keep forgetting that DeVito and Turner reunited in The Virgin Suicides….normally I am all over trivia like that..

I remember when Romancing the Stone came out….I was rooting against it…mainly because it seemed to be invading some of Indiana Jones turf. Kathleen Turner was a sex goddess 35 years ago. Unfortunately unlike Sharon Stone she really let herself go and I could barely recognise her in movies just 20 years later.

Prizzi’s Honor I haven’t seen in years, time to give it another spin.
I’ve always wondered why they didn’t do a sequel to Roger Rabbit, it was successful but I suspect the studio was still disappointed with it’s overall box office. I think Rain Man was a bigger hit in 1988.

1. Body Heat was one of the first R-rated movies I saw in theaters without my parents. Her performance was the sexiest thing my 14 year old eyes had ever seen….and is still something I think about to this day.
2. I have seen 18 of her movies…including the Top 14 here. In my mind her Body Heat character is right there with Barbara Stanwyck’s role in Double Indemnity as the two greatest femme fatales ever!
3. I just re-watched Prizzi’s Honor….it still holds up very nicely….she and Jack make a great screen couple…too bad things don’t work out well for them.
4. Peggy Sue is not bad at all…..plus you get Nick Cage and Jim Carrey….when they were just starting.
5. As popular as Roger Rabbit was…it’s lasting Power was actually pretty short….WoC strongly dislikes that one…is happy it never got that much talked about sequel.
