  1. 98 years old?! Bless his heart! and still blogging on MySpace?! I wonder if he’s aware of Google+? I admire this man for his acting ability and for the support he always offers his family members during their times of crisis. He’s their rock. Kirk … I salute you! 🙂

Cogerson … a HIGH FIVE to you for sharing with your fans two superb hubs of a FAB father & son! UP/Awesome/Rock Star

    1. Hey Sunshine625…..maybe somebody needs to tell him that MySpace is yesterday’s news…he really needs to go to Google+ he would really be on top of current events..lol. I appreciate the comments and the compliment…..and I got this hub done while he still had a pulse.

  2. I keep forgetting that he is alive, first he shows up on the Oscar broadcast, then this page, I hope it makes it to 100, at this rate I would not be surprised if he made another small movie or small part. Lots of classic movies, I might be the only one, but I remember him from There Was A Crooked Man(I remember the snake) and Saturn 3(he appears naked). Thanks for another quality page.

    1. Hey hinton1966…..Kirk is alive and well….when I was doing the research on this page, I was hoping when I checked Google news it would not be something like….”Kirk Douglas is in the hospital”…instead I was so glad to read that he walked across the stage to pick up his award just last weekend…the man is incredible. Don’t worry you are not the only one that remembers the rattlesnake from Crooked Man…thanks for the compliment and for stopping by.

  3. “I’m Spartacus!”

Excellent work Cogerson, Michael’s dad is one of my favourite Hollywood actors, a living legend. Like Flora says, so many great movies. My favourites include Spartacus (glad to see its at the top of your list), The Vikings, Seven Days in May, Gunfight at the OK Corral and Paths of Glory.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is such a great fantasy adventure, I’d buy it on blu-ray in an instant.

I enjoyed your trivia, the oldest myspace user, wow!

When John Wayne saw a screening of the movie Lust for Life he was angry with Douglas, “How can you play such a weakling character?” he told him. Douglas was nominated for best actor playing Van Gogh. And he lated played in a couple of films with the Duke.

    Voted Up and Useful.

    1. Hey SteveLensman….I always like it when the movies you mention….score well on my Movie Score list…Spartacus #1, The Vikings #4, Seven Days in May #12, Gunfight at the OK Corral #6, Paths of Glory #17 and 20,000 Leagues #2. Pretty good showings. The movie that surprises me is #3 The Strange Love of Martha Ivers….I had never heard of this movie before this hub….and to finish 3rd…amazing. Thanks for the story about Wayne and Douglas and Lust for Life…I had never heard that before. Thanks for the comments.

  4. A true living legend. He is my favourite living actor. Similar to my comment on your Gregory Peck hub, I won’t bother trying to list favourites as I usually do. By the way, according to Michael, Kirk’s favourite movie of his career is lonely Are the Brave. He made too many great movies for me to have a top ten. As always, my favourite genre iswell represented and you can judge from the large number of movies he made that fit into crime/suspense/mystery/noir which movies I see often. and I love he ands Burt together. But favourite genre doesn’t work with Kirk either. What I will do instead, is list what movies of his I *haven’t seen* yet from among his top listed movies of all three lists. Usually this is a result of not having access to the movie rather than not wanting to see it. I would love to see all of Kirk’s movies, even the ones way down on the list.

    From Top Ten Box Office:

    I haven’t seen:

The Vikings-this does air on TCM from time to time, usually at the wrong time of day for me.

I Walk Alone-doesn’t air on TCM,at least not in Canada

    The Fury-same as The Vikings

From Critics List I haven’t seen:

    Champion-not a boxing fan

Top 25 Movie Score Titles Otherwise Not Mentioned Already:

    The Walls of Jericho

    In Harms Way

    The Man From Snowy River

    Ulysses

The Fighter Indian-just know this as in imdb title

TCM has been a major help in me seeing kirk’s films. I cannot afford to buy movies I;’ve never seen and just hope I will enjoy them.

I’ve only seen 35 percent of his overall movies. However, in terms of his movies made before I was born in 1976, this percentage is *much* higher. so this 35 percent is a reflection of a) availability

and b) a prefernce of classic titles.

    1. Hey Flora….let’s see where to start….Lonely Are The Brave is a great film, I love Matthau’s part…too bad it did not do better at the box office. I am a little surprised you have not seen The Vikings…as that is probably one of his most famous roles. I could see I Walk Alone being hard to find….and I do not think you are missing anything by not seeing The Fury….it was only made because the success of The Omen and The Exorcist…..I see you are at 80% of the Top 25…pretty impressive….I am at…counting….I am only at 20%…sounds like I have some work to do…..lol…..my mom(BERN1960) would highly recommend watching The Man From Snowy River….it is one of her favorite movies. Glad you liked the Kirk hub…and thanks for commenting.

      1. yes, I thought you’d wonder about The Vikings. Just worked out I haven’t caught it on TCM yet gross.html#sthash.49cfK0U9.dpuf

        1. Hey Flora, I am sure you will knock The Vikings off your “Kirk Douglas movies to watch list” very soon. Especially now that you know how high it got ranked….#4…..I bow to your classic movie knowledge….Do you think #3 The Strange Love of Martha Ivers is ranked too high? As I mention in Steve’s return comment…I am shocked that a movie that I was not even aware of would finish so high on the rankings. Even more impressive it was Kirk Douglas first ever role…which sounds like a great start.
