1. La Raine Johnson was born in Roosevelt, Utah, on October 13, 1920

2. In 1938, La Raine Johnson adopted the name “Laraine Day” to honor her previous playhouse manager Elias Day, from whom she had received much of her training.

3. On Sunday, July 31, 1994, Laraine Day accepted a posthumous award on behalf of her former husband Leo Durocher, who had been chosen as an inductee into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.

4. At MGM, Laraine Day was told that if she did Keep Your Powder Dry (1945), she would be rewarded with the female lead in Undercurrent (1946) with Robert Taylor. When the role was given to Katharine Hepburn, Laraine left MGM and never returned.

5. Laraine Day played a small role in the early success of science fiction master Ray Bradbury. They met when he was in his early twenties and she was between films, donating her time to establishing a playhouse in Los Angeles for Mormon actors. Bradbury, though not Mormon, wangled a small role in a short play scripted by Day — and ended up rewriting it and authoring a few other works for the theater.

    1. Hey Dan…thanks for these trivia lists on Laraine Day. Neither is very long….but they are still interesting. First list gets a John Wayne shout out….I have only seen 1 of the 2 Wayne movies…but I enjoyed The High and the Mighty. Lionel Barrymore in 8 movies with her? I knew Lew Ayres had 8…..but I forgot about Barrymore being in those Kildaire movies as well. Only 10 Oscar winners….on the small side….but still not a bad total…as there are some legends among that 10. Great stuff as always.

    1. Hey Flora….thanks for the thoughts on Laraine Day. I have only seen 3 of these movies….but they are the Top 3….so I think I have seen the right ones. Tally count: 15 for you and 3 for me. Not surprised Foreign Correspondent made your favorites list. The only other one I have seen that you have seen is Mr. Lucky….which is not really one of favorite Cary Grant movies. Good stuff as always.
