The most important thing was he was in a film with Steven Seagal.
Hey Dan…you are 100% correct….his On Deadly Ground with Steven Seagal is a pillar of his career….lol. I actually saw that one in theaters. That one sent Caine into an early retirement and pretty much was the end of Seagal’s box office run. Today Caine is still going strong while Seagal is a “straight to home entertainment” legend. Good stuff.

I’m starting to get the idea you may be a fan 🙂 Personally, I don’t attach huge importance as to whether an actor is an Oscar winner or not (so many great actors have not received any), but I enjoyed your video nevertheless. It moved a bit fast for me (I got used to Steve’s pace – lol), but you had a lot of territory to cover!
Hey PhilHOF17….4 seconds per photo is indeed pretty quick…..the first version was well over 10 minutes…..if you view it a second or even third time it is much easier to keep up with…..but I agree it is a pretty rapidly paced video.
I just think the fact that Caine has worked with 25% of all the Oscar acting winners is pretty impressive. Caine is a wonderful story teller….and he seems to have met everybody famous of the last 70 years. Thanks for checking out our latest Caine shout out.
I have the tablet for just short periods and posts on some o Steve’s stuff and your 1930 review are locked away on my desk computer still being repaired. However my sporadic absences from the site prove the old adage that there’s little new under the sun because I see you are still waxing lyrical about sir Maurice!
As you know he is one of my own great favourites but I feel we mustn’t throw ourselves at the feet of our idols or else we will no be able to evaluate their work impartially. We could do worse in fact than to take a leaf from the book of benny green who used to present a musical prog on the radio in the UK and who idolised Sinatra and crosby and devoted large chunks of his programme to them but insisted he was nevertheless critically impartial.
For example he was invited to go to the states to sit in on a Sinatra recording session and opined that one of the songs that frankie recorded was sung more beautifully than ole blue eyes had performed it in concerts and he gave frank a good dressing down for singing it in the inferior manner on stage given that frank was capable of the beauty that green had just heard. I was surprised that the normally volatile frankie took the tongue lashing from green so meekly!
Bennys admiration of Sinatra was probably greater than your own for sir Maurice, Willis Moore and Archie combined. For example he was at one of the final farewell concerts of the ageing frankie and during the interval an elderly lady behind him said to her friend that Sinatra’s voice wasn’t what it once was. In a towering rage benny turned round and told the woman that her face wasn’t either but that didn’t stop her from imposing it on the public! Harsh, but then green was or is English if you know what I mean by that! Anyway o Great Work Horse be cautious about being too great an idolater.
Hey Bob…interesting stories about Benny and Frank…..this video…..is just a cool way to see how many Oscar winners he has worked with…..it finally occurred to me to do a video versus a page…..my attempts to write the winners into a UMR page did not work well at all. The beauty of running this site….is finding ways to put a light on my favorite performers….and Caine now has 2 videos and 1 page…..probably done for awhile..maybe….lol. Good luck with getting your computer back in the near future.

As you may have guessed all joking aside ANYTHING about sir Maurice is always welcome to me.
Frankie died on 14 may 98 and benny passed away 39 days later on 22 jun. Whilst benny would have seen something almost poetic in that he wold have spent his own final days saddened by the death of his great idol.
Glad to see a Judy Holliday page. I’ll post you on that when my desk computer back as I prefer to deal with the main stuff on that machine.
Hey Bob….well I am getting lots of enjoyment out of this video…so you being a Caine fan ought to enjoy it as well. The good thing is I did about 80% of these Oscar winners by memory. Granted a few I had to double check to see if they were a friend or a foe. I must admit I guessed on a few of them…see Landau in Shiner and Gielgud in The Whistle Blower…I have seen both of those movies but barely remember who was the good guys and the bad guys. Always a good day to talk Michael Caine.

Great video, and a really impressive list of costars for Mr. Caine. Like your ideas about which “pairing” (or is it coupling?) would lead to which child, too. Think Dame Maggie just right for mum of Hathaway and especially C. Walken.
Reminds me of the times when I did vids on the likes of Sullavan, Davis, Crawford, Clift, Diana Dors…not half as professional as this one, and such a loooong time ago 😉
Hey Lupino…thanks for checking out our Labor of Love….I always found it interesting that Caine had been in some many movies with Best Actress Winners…so this video put those thoughts out there for everybody to see. This is a wonderful tribute idea for your idol. He sure has worked on some highly rated films with respected fellow actors and actresses. This took a lot of time and heart.
I recently saw another Caine movie for the first time when TCM had their TCM Star of the Month look at Elizabeth Taylor. It was X,Y & Z. I found it to be very much a 70s movie with a lot of melodrama. I enjoyed it while I was watching it, but I do not think I will see it again.
Thanks Flora…glad you liked the video….it will keep me entertained for a long time. When I look at my movie watching notebook of the 1980s…it says I saw X, Y and Zee….and thought it was pretty average…..fast forward to 2018 and I have no memory of that movie at all….I guess I need to re-watch it to freshen up the old memory.
