  1. i saw 4 of top 7. no 10s, no 9s, no favorites, no hidden gems. a talented actress deserving of the 2 oscar nominations i watched. brokeback mountain a very slow, very sad 8. manchester by the sea, sadder , a 7.

    1. Hey bob cox….good mini-reviews on some Michelle Williams movies. I agree her movies tend to be very depressing…especially the two you mention. Good stuff.

  2. In the 7 of her movies that have crashed the 100-million-dollar barrier Michelle is a supporting player and in only one – Venom – is she even the out-and-out 2nd lead. The other 33 of the movies in the tables above average out at $7.3 million each domestically.

Examples of some of their production budgets in today’s dollars range from $53 million- $25.4 million- $9 million. It’s no wonder that Bette Davis despaired about the young actresses of the modern cinema not having the star power to open films.

Nevertheless Michelle has a reported current net worth of $30 million.

    1. Hey Bob….thanks for the thoughts on Michelle Williams. Good statistical breakdown of her movies. That $7.3 million average for other 33 movies is very low. Good information on Davis and young actresses. A couple of years ago, Mark Wahlberg got bashed for making more money than Williams during the reshoots of All The Money In The World. Wahlberg’s box office clout got the movie made….not thinking Williams’ name got the movie made. If they had to reshoot The Blindside…I would expect Sandra Bullock to get more money than Tim McGraw got….because it was Bullock’s name that got the movie made. Good stuff.

      1. HI BRUCE

Thanks for the feedback and additional information.

You make good points; and Davis and Crawford must be turning in their graves over all these actresses [and some actors though there seems to be less of them] getting showered with money and not being able to open a movie at the box office.

It’s just a pity that Joel isn’t around to “out” some of these vastly overpaid thespians in the way that he demonized poor ole Brando for [in Hirsch’s view anyway] making too much money – and at least Marlon in his two heyday decades of the 1950s and the 1970s WAS able to attract people to the box office.

NOTE: The movie industry reportedly regards any thespian [such as Cruise or Hanks] who can consistently attract the first $15 million to a movie on its opening weekend as being able to “open” a film. After that it’s the job of word-of-mouth to sell the film.

  3. First of all I think Blue Valentine and Synecdoche, New York are 2 of the worst movies ever made. I wanted to throw furniture at the screen while watching those 2. Surprisingly Michelle has never been on the Oracle of Bacon Top 1000. These are the actors on the 2020 list she has appeared with.

    1. Hey Dan. I do not like either of those two movies either, i think I liked Blue Valentine better, but that is not saying much. Like you, I am also surprised she’s not in the top 1000. I suspect she will get there eventually, because I think she has many more movies to make. Granted not sure how many more leading roles she has left, but I think she’s going to have a nice long career of supporting roles. Looks like Julianne Moore is her most frequent Oracle costar.I guess your career is not complete since she does not have a credit with my Michael Caine… LOL. 18 Oscar winning costars is lower than I would’ve guessed. I noticed you only list heath ledger ones, he was also in I’m not there. Good stuff as always.

  4. Let’s see….. I have seen 23 of these movies or 57.50%. Favorites would be The Greatest Showman, Oz, The Great and Powerful, Shutter Island, and The Station Agent. Four Oscar nominations is pretty impressive.
